Removing Lens From 93-95 Spec Turn Signal

Hello!

Quick question - can anyone confirm how to remove the lens cover off of a 93-95 spec front turn signal? Working on an LED retrofit project so I need to remove the lens. I note the lens has tabs on it, but do I need to heat up the assembly? Is the lens sealed or does it just snap into place?

TIA.

I haven't done one, but I would think the lens is bonded on. Most likely you need to heat it up to loosen the glue and done.

Similar principle to taking the tail lights apart to do the round tail light conversion.

BTW, I prefer to use the oven to do that - more consistent heat than a heat gun. A heat gun can get a spot too hot and melt or distort the plastic.

Thanks for the advice Dale. I've done taillights and the 99 spec units, but not the 93 spec ones. It looks similar in principle, but the tabs on the unit have me wondering, hence the question.

If anyone out there knows for sure, let me know or I will just go for it and heat it up.

I've gotten pretty good with the heat gun so that has become my primary method of heating up the lens assemblies. Guess I am part of the instant gratification society and can't wait the 10 minutes or so to stick it in the oven.

i did it so long ago i barely remember, but i think its glued. ~10 minutes in the oven at a low temp is good enough

I ended up breaking the tabs when I tried to remove the lens, I pryed more because I didn't want for the glue to soften. Even so it sealed just fine.

So, it has both a grey sealant and then tabs along the top and bottom. Heated it up in the oven at 200 degrees for around 15 minutes and then worked along the edge, lifting up the back grey plastic surround and then pulling out the lens.

Mission accomplished! Thanks for the help guys. Now it's on to the fun stuff. Looking to retrofit a set of switchback led strips into the large part of the housing so they can serve as a DRL and then, amber turn signals.
