I just cleaned mine today with some good rubbing compound. Came right off and looks good. And remember my car is white, so it shows up worse than anyother color.

The exhaust soot? I just wipe it off with my hand after I soap the car at the local carwash. I comes right off with no pressure.

I also would like to know a good solution to this problem. I have a white FD and no matter how much I wash it, "soot" builds up on the bumper over time. Polishing, rubbing compound, turpentine, etc will clean it off, but that strips the wax off, or some of the paint.
Anyone know of a mild way to clean the black off of the rear bumper??

Just use rubbing compound, car polish or clay bar it. It will take it right off and won't take paint off. Thats the only way I get it off without using chemicals.

That's exactly what I use on my white car. It works great and is so easy. Just spray then wipe.

amen brotha! simple green does a great job for me. i also try to wax and polish that portion of the car more and that seems to keep the stuff from sticking too badly.
