Its the only way to find out for sure. Like rynberg said, usually there is a sticker on the outside case...but if not and you have reason to think it is remapped, or if there is a sticker but you question its validity, then you're right...you have to take off the cover, remove the screws that hold the main board, and fold it back (the two boards are connected to one another via a flexible cable) to see if the daughter board is present.
