Relocating my Gas filler tube for pettit flares (pics)

Well i'm molding fender flares on, honestly they are crap unless you're going to mold them, I can't believe people put these on their car without molding them. So many gaps etc you can just pull the flare off of the car at the bottom.

Anyways, I wanted to mold them in but didn't like the idea of having the gas notch removing the cleanness of the mold. So this is the start of moving it to the rear hatch area.

I cut all of the metal out of the gas filler area, I bought semi-bendable steal braded gas line from summit. Since it's specialized rubber for gas, I has to get creative with the rubber that was with the old setup to use it for couplers.

My welding skills are really poor that was like my first ever weld; no big deal I can fix the welds or just use fiberglass filler.

This is with the plastic piece that fits behind the head light. I havent cut a hole yet; but basically I will cut a small hole abou the size of a quarter in that plastic so you wont see any of the crap underneath. Then I will just beable to pop the hatch and fill the tank from there. Also it has a gas cap on there but isn't a twist ****, it's a specialized flap I bought at advanced.

Nice work. What about gas fumes in the car? I think it would look cool if it was placed on the 1/4 panel like some of the GT cars. Not sure if the neck and tube would fit behind the 1/4 panel plastic though.

Fumes wont be a problem. The gas caps are made so they are air tight; not only that but the actual cap is outside of the seal of the hatch area. It'll be no different than stock.

Be careful of those gas pumps that stick and don't always cut-off when fuel is backflowing into the filler neck. I'd keep a roll of paper towels handy. Keep the pics coming though.

Wow, i like it. What product are you gonna use to mold the fenders onto the car. I'm fixing my side effects and want to mold them into the car. Haven't found what i want to use yet.

Nice!

Have you thought about modding it to be like one of those old Buicks with the flip-up license plate with the filler cap behind it? Or, is the plate too low? If it would work, it would be pretty clean.

I'm going to use UPOL Fibral. It's like a pasty fiberglass mix that is sandable.

Any info about the "specialized flap" that you found? Maybe a pic or a link? Just curious.

What you see is that gas cap but i removed the plastic cover that came with it to give me extra clearance for the hatch.

Nifty.

I know it's a detail but in MD, when you drive up to the emissions testing center, the emissions weenie needs to be able to remove your fuel cap and test its seal on a machine. Have this in PA?

The car is going to have a LS2, so the only emissions test that is usually done is through the OBDII port. If I really need to take it off I can cut a little more metal out and it will twist out. That said, my friend does the emissions testing.

The cap screws in like any normal gas cap it just happends to have a hole in it, instead of having to twist it off to get to the hole.
