Hey guys, just wondering whether it was possible for a non-CA FD to able to pass smog and be able to be registered here in CA....will a EGR valve have to be placed or not?

they just try to charge you $500, actually they might not even be doing that anymore (they got sued), so a non ca fd in ca is no biggie

i would have thrown a fit it they tried to charge me $500. they charged me $102 total for registration and plates.

just go into the DMV and say you wanna register a car. they just look at all the VIN's to make sure they are matching and stuff. i went thru the whole process back in january. as for egr valves, i'm pretty sure all FD's have them already but the CA ones had an extra sensor. my car passed smog and i'm pretty sure yours will too.

They aren't doing the "environmental fee" anymore. They actually refunded the $490 that they robbed from me back in '98 when I registered my FD from NM.

I have a federal FD, never had a problem since 2000 when I got it. The car follows the federal smog standard even when tested in ca. No surcharges, knock on wood.

I had to pay an extra fee in 2000.
Can't remember exactly how much but I don' t think it was 500. You just need a regular smog.
Just make sure all visuals are good. And drive it for half hour or so to some small gas/smog station. They won't know where to look for parts on a rotary.
