Registaration questions
Sorry for another newbie question but I couldnt find anything searching.
I have been looking at a 93 vr touring, it is in pretty good shape. An everything checks out on it.
The only problem is...
The car is registered in washington but it is in California. What do I have to do to get it registered here? Any physical mods?
How much tax do they charge you when you register your car here? and how much will the total registration cost?
Thanks for your help. I would appreciate a quick response, because I am thinking about putting a deposit on it today!!!

The important document for your purposes is the title, not the registration. (Although the current registration should match the name on the title.) You should make sure the person selling the car is the same name as the one listed on the title, otherwise you could be buying a stolen car. Asking to see the seller's drivers license wouldn't be out of order.
As for sales tax and license, each state is different. The DMV will be able to tell you.

yeah, the title is good, but I just want to know if there are any problems with moving your car to a different state. I also hear that CA is one of the most strict on emissions so there might be soem changes that have to be made. Thanks for your help.

To get it registered here you will need to pass a smog check and a DMV check. The DMV check is basically looking for stuff like missing seatbelts and broken brake lights, etc, so you shouldn't have any problem with that. The smog check could be a little trickier, but as long as it doesn't have big mods you should be fine. If the shop dings you on a visual mod, you can always swap it back for stock. Smog checks are always a tossup, people routinely pass with "Stage 3" mods and others who only have a downpipe occasionally get dinged. Good luck!

Mine was from WA
Mine was registered as a WA state car. Although, mine was easier since it was originally sold in CA.
Anyhow, it's very easy if you go through AAA instead of the DMV. They did not ask for my bill of sale, just verbaly asked "what my purchse price was" so he can calculate my tax. So I told him I paid $1CAUGH.00
I had allready done a smog check previous to going to AAA, so I just gave him the proof. There was no lookover whatsover and he handed me my plates and stickers right there. Oh, sorry he did walk to the car and check the VIN and odometer but that's it.
For an out of state car, don't listen to the bullshit about it being expensive. The so called experts I talked to had there heads up their butts. Buying a car from Canada is just as easy.
At the very worst, you get a letter from Mazda stating that this vihicle with VIN# ... complies with US federal standards (takes 2 weeks). You will have to do this for the Canadian car, I doubt for the WA car. In either case, you are only held reponsible for federal emisions and not CA. When you do a smog test, the computer automatically tests you accordiing to fed emisions & not CA.
Be carefull with the radar speed trap up in redding driving home, they got me there.
