Redline Vs. Neo Tranny Fluid (my experience)

I finally changed over to Neo 75W90HD oil in my tranny today. It was ~43F tonight (you can see the steam come out of your nose when you breathe out) and I let my car sit outside for ~5hrs after I drove it around town. It doesn't have nearly as much "notch" in the 1-2 shift when it is dead cold, but it isn't absent. Once it warms up, I do notice that it is somewhat smoother.
I really don't think any normal weight/viscosity gear lube can really handle cold ~40F weather without having some notch. Though, I can't really make any solid facts on whether it will or not, as my 99k mile tranny isn't the best benchmark to determine which gear oil will work well when it is cold.
Overall, I think I could have saved a few bucks had I went with Mobil 1 75W90 gear old.

i used redline in my crankcase for two oil changes and the guy that upgraded my turbo told me that there was some scarring on the bearings. . . its BRAND NEW. well, it has about 5k miles on it. thought it was funny. i otherwise use castrol syntec.
i will DEFINATELY try out the NEO product.

I use Royal Purple in the transmissions and differentials of 4 vehilcles:
Royal Purple Max Gear 75W90 in:
Rear end of 04 RX8, 95 RX7, 94 RX7, 93 RX7
Manual tranny of 95 RX7 and 94 RX7
Royal Purple Max ATF in:
Auto tranny of 04 RX8 and 93 RX7
Overall I've had excellent results except whenever it is really cold the rear end of the RX8 grinds and chatters badly until warmed up. This has only been happening since swapping to Royal Purple. I think Neo is better in this aspect. Redline and Mobil 1 is trash, especially Redline.

I just read this and wondering any more Neo users since this thread?? I'm thinking about changing my tranny fluid this weekend.. before the deals gap event..
Also, someone mentioned about mixing MTL and MT-90?? Ive heard MTL is like 75/80 and MT-90 is like 75/90?? I might have to just go with Red Line for now and try Neo later..

I had redline in before and at first it seemed great but sort of "wore" out. Hard to explain. Then put in neo and at least for me it seemed like it felt as it were new Redline but all of the time.

I had some Neo 80w90 HD installed about a month ago, in the tranny and diff. I'm not sure what fluid was in the car before. You can feel the syncros working more quickly; when you apply very light pressure to the shifter, it will slip in to the next gear after a split-second. (This is the correct way to shift to avoid excessive wear to the syncros) The old fluid would take at least twice as long to slip into gear when very light pressure is applied.
According to the owner's manual, 80w90 is OK to use in certain climates. The higher-temp rating fluid is noticeably slow and notchy when the car is cold (for my area, coldest temps are 45-50 degrees F), but this goes away after a few minutes.

Great info.. I just ordered 8 gallons of this Neo stuff.. I'm going to put it into all my cars..

Let's hear the updates on people that have/ are using NEO in their tranny.
Also, i like to hear from those that are using NEO in their engines.
I know Redline doens't have any ill-effect in rotaries with 400K+ total miles on both rx7's with Redline.

I just purchased two gallons of Neo and will be changing the tranny and diff this weekend. The transmission is definately notchy with a slight 5 gear syncro problem. I am really hoping that is clears some of this up.

No they just have the qt listed (and at $12!!). Baker Precision sells it for much less and both qt and gallon size.
My experience with the Neo has been generally positive, but I'm going back a true GL-4. GL4/GL5s are more slippery than a true GL-4, so the synchros don't get as much grip and the shifts are more clunky. I'm going to be using Amsoil AGT.

I just change my diff fluid last week, and I used Royal Purple stuff because they are redily avaliable at any local auto store, and so far the car feels great. However, when I put Redline fluid in my tranny a few months back, I was noticing the nochyness in 2nd gear, and especially cold, it was fine when the car warms up though. I think I will go with Neo next time around.
