Cool Recommend an exhaust to me...

Mywife wiped out with a blow-out and a big rock pushed my muffler and tips up into the car. She then droveitwith the tips pointing into the plastic skirt and came home with the skirt dripping off my car.

Oh well.

Now I'd like to put a down pipe and exhaust system on my car. I'd like to put the mid-pipe on as long as I'm there, but there are no immediate plans to upgrade the computer, but eventually I will need to get new injectors, intercooler, etc. The only mod I've done is the manual boost controller. Also, I do not need to pass emissions where I live and I do not plan on selling the car or moving, but it is always a possibility.

Questions:

1) Is it a good idea to completely eliminate the CAT, isn't that part of placing the down and mid-pipe? Does it affect resale? Give me a primer on how the CATis eliminated and the effect on the engine.

2) What systems are good to go with? Ease of placement, reliability. I definitely want SS.

3) I like my cars loud!! What system is loud?

Thanks.

I would not put on a midpipe without a computer upgrade because the cat is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system. You'll get some massive boost creep with a midpipe. I'm not sure how effective the manual boost controller is, but I had one and it was hard to control the boost.

It's a good idea. Replacing the cat with a midpipe gets you a lot of horsepower, and it reduces heat in the exhaust. The only downfall is the gas smell and excessive noise. Any aftermarket catback will be loud with the midpipe. I have the stock catback with midpipe and it's not that loud.

As for resale value, just put the cat back on when you want to sell it. The exhaust system is easy to put on, cause it's just all bolt on. The downpipe is not easy due to it's location. It's a nightmare to take it off and put back on.

You should get a downpipe before any other exhaust upgrade.

Stay away from the midpipe if you are not going to upgrade your ECU. As for your boost you should keep it at 10psi, unless you plan on upgrading the ECU. As for an exhaust, the A'pexi GT Spec is definitely loud, however, you have the option to put in the silencer to keep it quit. As for a downpipe, it really doesn't matter, just make sure you get an SS one.

For best performance and loudness I would recommend the Apexi GTspec exhaust, unless you want something louder which connects to your downpipe down, then the HKS titanium would be best. For a downpipe I like the M2 because of the fitment and quality. I hear ATR downpipe is pretty good.

Monza, quality $hit if you ask me. I would go with something thats not loud, and looks stock. Something like the M2 Dual tip or Racing Beat Dual Tip.

Of course if you want Bang for you buck (and loudness!) you can get the Blitz Nur Spec for like $300.00

Anyone got a recomendation between these 2 exhausts - fitament, looks, weight, sound, quality, etc? They are both within $25 of each other.

I just put the Trust Power Extreme II on my car and I love it. Nice and loud when you get on it but it is quiet cruising around town.

A'pexi GT spec!! Absolutely gorgeous, and loud enough to shatter windows. If you want it quieter then you can easily install the included silencer and BAM, you lose at least 50% of the db! I love the way it sounds and looks.

Mach2.... if you put the silencer on the Apexi GT Spec, would that affect the exhuast flow and horsepower?

The silencer does take away a big chunk of power.
I was at a dyno day at RP a year or so back and one of the guys there had the apex w/the silencer. He was also running a DP/MP/intake, etc..
My memory is not so good, but I think he gained about 40rwhp in back to back dyno runs. He took the silencer out on the second run and it made a HUGE difference.

Just my .02

go with the Racing Beat exhaust system. its the best sounding one, IMO. the cannister exhaust systems from Apex that i have heard (Apex N1, Apex GT-Spec, Apex N1 Dual) all sound really bad, and frikkin loud too. also, the RB Dual tip is the best looking exhuast system, IMO.

the M2 is also a nice unit, very similar in design/looks as the RB, but i dont know about the sound. im assuming the RB and M2 exhaust systems sound similar, but i have never heard the M2.

just my .02

I say you get rid of the wife first..

I say DON'T go with the N1 (dual or single). It sounds like absolute ****.

Even though JoeD always suggests against canister mufflers, there are canisters that sound quite good. The HKS Super Dragger comes to mind, as does the Blitz NUR Spec.

though the racing beat won't give you the huge muffler tip look that most of the single tip canisters will give you.

Whatever. most of this is purely subjective.

But the Super Dragger is actually very nice. It's very quite cruising, mellow and rumbly at idle, and not very harsh up top. It's agressive, but not over the top. Too bad it costs ~$1000

I wouldn't get a midpipe right now if I were you. Get any SS downpipe (Bonez from rx7.com and the M2 one are good). I'm not too sure about cat-back choice if you want it loud, I'm getting the Racing Beat or M2 one pretty soon.

If you want to dump the stock cat, get a high-flow cat instead, like the Bonez (rx7.com) which already has the air-pump nipple.

Racing Beat dual tip lacks some flow ... I put on a Greddy PE and I started burning the tires! Here is a thought-some people used to use the racing beat dual tip w/ dp & mp to control boost because it did restrict the exhaust just enough .....

I have a straight through HKS superdragger. Quiet under throttle but sounds good when opened up. 3 1/2 inch straight piping. I was thinking of trading it for something that is a little less "in your face" To many people asking me queations about it and I'm gettin old. Got my car new in 1993!!! The exhaust only has about 9K miles on it and only 1 or 2 times in the rain. Its in excellent shape.

Looking for a PFS exhaust or something like it that is a little more understated. Will drive to trade throughout N.E. and mid atlantic.
If anyone is interested mcclurerx7@yahoo.com
