I am in the process of refinishing by my interior panels and was wondering how to address the reassembly of the fan, temperature and vent control pieces that attach to the backside of the climate control interior panel. I used a heat gun to get them off and the way I see it I have two options to reattach them. The first option is to place them back on, heat up the panel and hope the existing glue melts enough to rebond the pieces to the panel. The second option would be to remove all the adhesive with some a solvent and reattach the pieces with some sort of plastic glue.
I have read many threads on refinishing interior panels but this step is not discussed on any of the threads I’ve read. I’m interested in what others have done and how successful they were at getting everything adhered to the backside of the panel.
When you screw the plastic backing pieces back into the panel I found it holds together sufficiently. Reheating the adhesive wasn’t necessary and over time will likely re-adhere by itself. If you want to replace old climate control stickers, these guys make great almost identical oem replacements. https://www.blackcatcustom.com/mazda_rx_7.htm
