Rear squeaking? What part would it be?

Hey all, I'm getting squeaking that sounds strange when I go over bumps. I've heard the cricket idea which is the rear hatch - this is definitely a problem that I will fix with some new bump stops or something, but this problem is different...I think it might be the rear springs or something. It sounds like a bad bed when you go up a curb or anything mildly bumpy and sounds horrible on the highway. This is just the rear of the car and I can only hear it with the windows down. Anyhow, I took it to speedy a while back just so I could get it up on the hoist to take a look at it and it was hard to really determine what the problem was. The guy was a big help, but he couldn't find anything really either...Anyhow, I'm thinking of maybe the Tokico Illumina shocks and Eibach springs or something similar. I just need 2 for the rear at the moment, so does anyone have any suggestions? I was going to post this is the suspension forum, but I'm not sure if that's the problem. Oh yes also, I'm pretty sure the pillow-***** need replacing, but this would relate to a clunking noise right?...So this "bad bed" sound I think are the springs? Any help would be appreciated, sorry for making this so complicated :P -Joe

hey, i have the same exact problem now with my 94! i also own a 1979 corvette, and had the same problem with that car as well. the problem with the vette, was the bearings. so im guessing it is the bearings on the rx-7 that need to be replaced, which sucks for me, becuase i just bought the car like 4 weeks ago. but i would def check out your bearings before buying new shocks.

yeah I know the pillow ball bearings definitely need replacing, but I didn't think they caused squeaking? If they do that will be a relief for me (money wise)...thanks for the input

Joe,

The squeaking is probably the rear sway bar - if you lubricate the sway bar bushings (way up there) the squeaking will subside. Be prepared to do it every few months...
