Rear hatch squeaking?

Does anyone know what part of the rear hatch assembly causes this horrible squeak I am getitng while driving over bumps (it sounds like something is loose and rubbing against plastic?).

Thanks in advance...

Need to adjust the rubber stoppers. Mazda has a service bulletin on it. I'll hunt it down.

I stand corrected. The stopper bulletin was for the hood. Here's the one for the rear hatch hinges:

page1
page2

About 32 bucks per hinge.

hey, this is what u do:

1. Pop off plastic piece where latch falls into. (Not latch on the trunk that pops up. It will be the one w/ rear washer fluid.)
2. There will be two bolts holding it down. Loosen them and push down on latch while tightening them again.
3. Put plastic piece back on. May take a while to put back into place but will go in again.

Notice, no hood rattle

The bulletin was for the nylon hinge bushing wear that cause it to rattle over bumps. I don't see how moving the match striker down a bit will prevent rattling up near the roof hinges.

This is pretty much just repeating what was just said but is how it was explained on rob robinettes web site, maybe a little easier to understand... To fix that rattle, just remove the plastic moulding from the hinge area. It just snaps out and pull it straight up. You will see the hinge secured with two bolts. Loosen the bolts and just push the hinge all the way down to its lowest point. Re-tighten the bolts. You may experience a very tight fit and some extra muscle to close your hatch, but you won't have that annoying rattle. I had a little difficulty replacing the plastic moulding, it may take you awhile to reposition it just right and snap it back in place, but can be done!

Had the same problem with my TII. I just sprayed WD-40 on the hinges and all was fine. It was starting to bug the hell out of me.
