Put the car up on jacks yesterday to change wheels. I rolled the hub forward by hand and noticed the other hub just stayed static - not rolling in same direction. Seeing as this car has limited slip, shouldn't the other hub turn in unison as I roll it forward?

Or am I missing the concept of limited slip....ie maybe it engages after a certain centrifugal force is reached. I checked the fluid level and it's fine.

Please let me know if anyone thinks I need the diff looked at or if thats the way it operates. Thx

Please, please, please - anybody's .02 is appreciated. A mechanic is looking at it and has said in his 26 years of experience he has never seen a "limited slip" that doesn't rotate both wheels as you turn one of them. I don't want to frag my diff nor do I want to pay for something I don't need. Thx

 

The FD's use a Torsen LSD. It is a torque sensing
unit that has no clutches preload springs or anything you would find in a normal LSD. With the rear of the car jacked up so both wheels are off the ground and the transmision in gear so the drive shaft cant turn if you turn one wheel the other wheel should turn in the other driction just
like an open differential.

 

stick a screw driver at the input to keep the propeller shaft from spinning and try again
