The tube is suppose to reproduce lower frequencies, mid bass/bass. Are you sure that the previous owner did not tinker with it?.
1st my center channel speaker went then the rear ones went actually the amps for the speakers blew out. For its time that was probaly the best stock sound system out of a major production car, but its a 10 year old stereo so it can't compete with some of the systems they are putting in cars today. I definity wouldn't waste my time trying to get the rear speakers to work, if you want to get mid range bass get a bazooka tube like a 8" amp RS its cheap and weighs less than the stock wave system, and it sounds better too.
If you want to trouble shoot it though it a Mazda repair guide will show you how its setup, might want to ask for a repair guide that someone has posted on thier website.

don't bother with that wave crap. do like quivver is saying and get a better system put it. A 10" sub will definitly do better that stock for producing bass/midbase. Better components such as mid's and tweets will make your car sound better too.

From a thread on the big list a few months ago -
"The most probable reason there is no sound coming from the tube is because
the FETs in the final stage of the amplifiers is cooked.
If you know how to solder then you can replace it with this part:
STP45NE06LFP from: http://www.st.com/stonline/products/index.htm
schematics -http://www.geocities.com/rx712psi/BOSEfets.html
http://www.geocities.com/rx712psi/BOSE.html"
My wave is the same way as yours, you can hear a little sound if you stick your ear near them. I replaced mine with a used one, no improvement. Then I sat in a '94 the other day with a Bose that worked, and it was quite a difference.

Heh, that's my post with the schematics & link to the datasheet...
It's funny, I posted that to the big list about 3 years ago & there was no interest. Now people are wanting to fix their amps. (I just got an e-mail from someone yesterday about it.)
That part isn't carried by radio shack or Digi-key, so I had some sampled to me. I don't have any left, but if there is interest I can get 50 pieces (min buy) for I think $25.00
I can't guarantee this will fix your amps, but it's in my expierence the most likely cause of low volume & popping.
Let me know if you want some.

would this mosfet be a fix for a wave system that gets no sound whatsoever? and, to add another stupid question..............where in the heck do i find this amplifier to solder it?
thanks,

If you remove the rear tube & flip it over you'll see two metal things. Those are the heat sinks/shields for the amps. Each speaker in the Bose sytem has it's own amp. and each amp has 4 FET's. (This is from old fadded memory)
I can't tell you it'll fix your problem unless I scoped the input & output of your amp...
Are you sure there is NO sound at all? The best way to determine that is to open the tube & feel the speaker.

oops.............i should qualify that statement............i couldn't hear any sound coming out of the back hatch speakers................all the other speakers are working fine. when i get home tonight i'll open up the tube and check the speakers..........
i appreciate the info on the amp locations................
thanks,
bob

es - yup, that's your post and links, and that was me yesterday. I have the whole thread saved, with the schematics.
So, we'd need to replace 8 FETs? I need to get some somehow, so if there's any interest at all in the min purchase, I'm in.
Thanks,
Jonas
