Just wanted to say thanks to this post. Mine broke and I did the same thing to fix it and now it works great
I sanded the nub down, drilled into it and ported it for the new peace, pluged in the new nipple then soldered the plastics together and put silicon around the edge just to make sure.

I bough about 10 used solenoids (including the turbo and precontrol ones) for about $40. I don't think it is worth the time or effort to fix these.

The problem you may run into is buying some defective ones (which still buts you in the similar boat). People have even purchased new solenoids to find them not testing to spec. There's no problem in repairing ones you know are good (aside from a broken nipple).

I used a short piece of commonly available 1/8" brake line. Drilled the old nipple out and pressed the steel one in. Didn't take long and has been working fine for years now.
