Jim, if this is what you have in mind, then I'm all for it.
What about fitting vette lights into the equation? They dont look that enormous, and they light beautifully.

Yes. It's the only way to have good lighting and a flush surface, and that area isn't structural at all. That said, my bracket should stiffen it up nicely, just in case anyone's worried.

That's the look. The C6 Corvette lights are HID, which means A) expensive, and since the car just came out, B) rare as hell.

Keep in mind that you can't see the structure of the light behind the cover. The FD was never made to have fixed lights, so there's very little room to work with, while the Corvette was designed that way and has broader (and deeper) fenders.

BTW, I hope no one gets the mistaken idea that I'm putting these covers down. I just have a certain way I want things, but if this is "it", I'm in for a pair or two.

Actually, I am looking into trying to get an HID kit for this as well. It would require to cut that section out too. But let me do some more work.

How about just making headlights that are mounted in the combo light location since you're now fabricating plastic parts etc. You'd probably get a lot better lighting but the height might be a bit too low to be legal. Then the stock light covers could be retained : )

Wink

If I make it without wrap arounf the base, will you guys still be interested? Cuz it seems like very tie fit. But if you guys can readjsu the fender, bumper and hood, then it should fit okay. I was not able to close my hood cuz FEED hood was a bit off. I'm sure stock one is okay.
Second, for sure I will not be using 90mm fog lights. It is just too big to fit into the pod. 70mm fog light will be use instead. the lights will be extend foward more. People ask won' the lighting wires and housing be showing. To solve that problem, a custom made cover will be made. It will cover up the 90mm outter whole then extend to thefog light. Looks some more like the Cwest kit.
Keep in mind:
1. RE base pod will be the same.
2. The clear top cover will fit any RE Pods.
3. Still no need to cut the frame.
4. 70mm Fog light can fit a H3 HID kit.

BTW I'm thinking to add a orange signal light on it, so look like the FC sleek kit. What you guys think?

This kit will be delay for awhile. Due to chinese new year. Happy New Year! hehe

Possibly, if it's extremely cheap and has no black perimeter ring.

Cuz it seems like very tie fit. But if you guys can readjsu the fender, bumper and hood, then it should fit okay.
The pod should be able to move more readily than the body parts. In fact, you really shouldn't have to move any body panels at all.

I was not able to close my hood cuz FEED hood was a bit off. I'm sure stock one is okay.
Here's what the genuine RE light looks like with the hood closed. It is a fairly tight fit. Chuck's seems to be looser. Maybe it's time to make an entirely new one-piece pod with a wrap-around cover.

Second, for sure I will not be using 90mm fog lights. It is just too big to fit into the pod. 70mm fog light will be use instead. the lights will be extend foward more.
So you'll make a non DOT-legal kit with sub-standard light dispersion just to avoid cutting?

People ask won' the lighting wires and housing be showing. To solve that problem, a custom made cover will be made. It will cover up the 90mm outter whole then extend to thefog light. Looks some more like the Cwest kit.
So it turns into a 3-piece unit? Pod base, CF/fiberglass light mask, clear cover?

2. The clear top cover will fit any RE Pods.
That's the only reason I'm here.

3. Still no need to cut the frame.
Mine is already cut.

4. 70mm Fog light can fit a H3 HID kit.
The original RE kit came with IPF "fog lights" with H3 bulbs. They weren't that impressive, to say the least. I've owned most of the sleek light kits available over the last ~7 years.

BTW I'm thinking to add a orange signal light on it, so look like the FC sleek kit. What you guys think?
The car already has a prominent turn signal. It doesn't need another.

Sorry if it was mentioned before but didn't see it - what material is it made of? I'll likely be in for a pair or two. I prefer the 'wrap around'. If people can't get the cover to fit, they can always trim it.

If the wraparaound doesn't fit, I would advocate molding it so it DOES fit, then sanding some material off of the peremeter of the RE (or other) pods... they're just fiberglass, and need to be painted anyway.

The fitment issue is what I posted about earlier. The warp around idea is excellent and I think it is the answer but it wont work on an RE pod, or at least mine, becouse of tight fitment. And triming the pod is a little more complicated then it sounds. I sanded the edge of my pod to make it fit better and becouse it is made by bonding two halfs together -it separated and I had to rebond it. No big deal just alittle more work. I think to do it right a new pod would need to be made that was about 1/8inch smaller all around.

Why live with the crappy RE-style pods at all? Why not have a nice single piece design with better mounting provisions, with a molded in "lip" for the wrap-around cover to fit onto?

Indeed... seems like if it's cost effective to manufacture sealed, 1-piece replica '99 turn signals for $150, it wouldn't really be any more money to manufacture light pods that way either... the only cost difference would then be the actual Hella 90mm lights themselves.

Our manufacture is close for the Chinese new year. Have to wait for another 2 weeks, then they are ready.

For the cast molding on these set of headlight would cost about US$30,000. I don't think it is worth it.
