Re-installing stock motor mount band strap

Hey guys -

Searched on this this morning, didn't find anything, figured out how to do it so figured I'd post.

Had a good set and a bad set of motor mounts, was making one good set, the good set had a few f-d up parts and missing things. One of the biggies was the metal strap that goes around the motor mount. This is a Good Thing if/when the mount breaks, it keeps things in check.

Well, the mount is slightly compressed to hold that band tight. With it off, it's VERY hard to get on there.

Got 2 hose clamps, doubled them up, and wrapped it around the back of the mount and tightened up a bit. I was then able to get the steel band started, used a little WD-40 to help it slide over the rubber and tapped with a mallet. When it was almost home, I took off the hose clamp (it was in the way at that point) and drove it the rest of the way.

Worked easy. Probably helped that the mount was on an engine on an engine stand, otherwise you might want to put the mount in a vice or something.

Dale

strange, i have never seen an FD mount that expanded enough to put pressure onto the straps. most of the time they are loose and lift off without even a resemblance of a fight, even with brand new mounts the straps are snug but not bound up.

they should be a little loose and they do serve a purpose. i actually made a set for my FC to copycat the FD design since the FC mounts have no support for high torque loads. had plans of refining it some more as an upgrade for earlier models, i just dislike through bolt mounts but that's me.
