RE Amemiya short shifter installed; PICS

Just got the shifter installed that I got for Christmas. Overall, the shifter feels as smooth as stock when going through the gears. I actually haven't been able to drive my 7 with it installed due to my engine rebuild project though. I took a picture of the shifters next to each other but will take some of both shifters installed when in first and second gear if anyone's interested.

And if anyone know's the reduction percentage for the RE Amemiya shifter, please enlighten me.

I felt my friend's RE shifter, and it pretty much just felt like stock. It might be like a 20% length reduction or so, but I know my Mazdaspeed and my other friends B/M were much shorter than the RE.

Well, looking from that picture it looks(at least to me but hey! I don't know s**t) that the shifter is indeed shorter but the fulcrum point seems to be the same in both so the throw ratio between the top and bottom of the sticks are the same?! Please feel free to correct me.

IMO, B&M short shifters feel horrible. I had one for a short time but I got rid of it. The shifts felt really vague to me, almost like not shifting at all. Kind of felt like pushing a stick into a clay bar.

???? So quickfini, you are saying that this RE Amemiya does not have that short throw like the B&M and the other short shifter???? I just bought mine as well, but haven't install it. I will be really dissappointed to find out that it feels like stock...

Well, as you can see from the pic Mahjik posted that the fulcrum point is actually more up on the right shifter, therefore increasing the movement of the lower part while decreasing the movement of the upper part. RE-amemiya is just simply a shorter stick.

Try with a pen. Grab at the bottom of the pen and 'shift the gears'. Now grab the middle of pen and go through the' gears' again and see that the lower part moves more while the upper part of the pen moves less.

I can slightly tell a difference between the two. When he says it feels like stock he means shifting wise. It's just a smooth. Most B&M's shifter can feel VERY notchy. If you are looking for a SHORT short shifter then you'll probably want to go with the one Mahjik shows in the picture. I wanted something that wasn't too radical and still felt like stock.

It took me about 10-15 minutes to install but I've done it before about 5 times (had to change the bottom plastic piece).

Yeah, the RE throw is just about the same as stock.

If you want short, go with a B/M or Mazdaspeed. The B/M is much notchier than the Mazdaspeed. Depends on what style you prefer.

Yea ppl often assume the RE one is super short. It's not. I've posted this several times, throughout the several for sale threads I had w/ the RE shifters. It's NOT considerably shorter; but it's INCREDIBLY smooth. If you want super short, get a B&M, but it's incredibly notchy. I have no experience w/ the Mazdaspeed shifter, but from this and other threads, it seems to be the middle ground. I remember I HATED my B&M when I first installed it, but now I can't live w/o it It all depends on what you're looking for.

although smooth.. the RE is just a shorter column.. nothing more..
otherwise its exactly like stock.. REs definition of short is unfortunately literal..
the other SSKs reference to short is actually short throw..where its in the pivot and height.. not just height..
went with the mazdatrix and couldnt be any happier...

Should work alright. Personally I prefer the C's short shifter, however.

when the shifter is *too* short, it feels like crap. 20-30% reduction is nice for fd's.

Sorry! I missed this post. I still like it. I haven't put a ton of miles on it (and the car has been down for over a year), but it has tainted my view of every shifter on every other car now.

My dad's C5 Z06 felt like I was shifting a truck after driving my RX7. So, I had to get him a B&M shifter for his car.

I have the B&M. Yes its a bit notchy but not noisy like people said it will be and i love how short the throws are. I dont know about you but im not a drag guy where i have to be shifting at a million miles an hour. The B&M prevents you from shifting fast since its notchy but i dont care. Even if you shift fast without overdoing it, its fast and short.

It's not the first time I hear bad comments about the B&M.

I have had a B&M for many years now and it's fine.
