Rare sound at WOT(not smog)

Ok guys, other than having either the turbo oil return hose causing s shitload of white smoke under the engine heres what I hear(ill describe it to the best of my abilities).

Taking off ill end up shifting at about 5-6k rpms, but once on 2nd at WOT at about 6-7k rpms I hear what sounds like(please stay with me on this one)two ballbearings smacking the crap out of each other,or similar to a piston engine about to stall(i mean the sound) when you dont press the clutch in.

Also, car seems to hesitate just a little bit as its going up on speed/rpm.....Could it be ignition related?I do have a pfc that has pretty much never been set up,car not tuned.

Im afraid to take the car higher on rpms because im afraid something's gonna give.Any suggestions?Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Gil

don't know.. but could be knock, esp. if you're not tuned, and you've got mods. I wouldn't drive it until you can get a wideband in it and get a decent street tune.

Did you check knock readings on your pfc? Stop driving it hard before you are tuned. Try reading up on fuel pump re-wire incase you are going lean at high rpm.

Either find a reputable shop to work on your car, or sell it. If you keep going the way you're going, there's going to be another rolling chassis for sale shortly.

I really dont know what you mean by that, but I take good care of my car, theres 4 others I can drive.Ive used the Search button so many times it automatically takes me there evrytime I open rx7club!Anyway,if you cant suggest anything good, then you know the rest.(btw,JPR is 30 minutes from me)

Ok,back to topic!Just got back from taking the car out on the road and it seems that at half throttle right at 4500 rpm,I go lean for almost a full second and it comes back, but its probably because I let off the gas.The noise isnt high pitched at all, sounds like you take a couple of dice and shake them, thats what im hearing.I know I made a big mistake not getting the car tuned(yet),but that noise wasnt a problem before.I cleaned out the underbody by the secondary turbo(oil leak) but can't seem to find the issue with the leak either. Both ignition #s peak at 49,and I apologize for not knowing what the heck that means.
Bad secondary?Timing off?(its running richer than a widow with a life policy

Thanks!

The 49 should be nowhere near the spot you are having trouble, thats high rpm under vacuum usually. You should really stop driving the car till you figure out why you go lean. You could have a faulty secondary injector or something.

Not really moose. I had this sound and it was the metal gasket between the 99 y-pipe and cross over pipe. It can happen from many locations where the bolts are not tight enough, and is only prevalent when under boost.

Well, detonation on a piston car sounds like shaking a metal can full of marbles. Which is what you are describing. I have never heard detonation on a rotary (thank you god) and hope I never do.
If that is your problem, you are certainly on borrowed time if you keep reproducing it, and worse yet, you may have already damaged your engine.

Not trying to be an ***, but I don't understand why you would run the car hard (boost) if the PFC has not been tuned?

Don't drive it. Start with all the easy stuff, how is your plugs, wires, O2 sensor, oil, coolant, air filter, fuel filter, vacuum lines, all pipes tightened, good grounds? If you have your old ECU put that back in because of your tune. I always start with this stuff first as it helps me narrow in on the problem or sometimes fix the problem. Good luck, don't dive a pinging rotary, 2 seconds is too long.

Stop driving it. Seriously. If you get any kind of detonation on that car (caused by leaning out and alot of other things) or bad knock your engine will hand you a $3000 MINIMUM Bill.

Go and get it tuned by a tuner, if you have a PFC and have never had it tuned, you are playing a very, very dangerous game unless the car is bone stock. These cars are very finicky, take the stock cat off and dont get the car tuned and even at 10psi (stock boost) it can cause the engine to pop.

Honestly buddy, i cannot stress this enough - do not drive the car hard if it hasnt been tuned. The noise could just be a rattle from a loose componenet - but even if it is, you still need the car tuned. So go do that, and if it doesnt sort the noise out, THEN investigate the nosie.
