I also have the same leak with a rear spoiler. However, what would be the reasoning behind the leak only being on the left side of the vehicle as opposed to both?

Damn! I have this crap hapening to me too.
My guess was that it was the rear window seal..........but the the spoiler thing makes sense.
I had no idea that so many people had this issue.

I had this after I installed the '93 R1 spoiler on a '94 Touring, the solution was Metal washers with rubber backing to illimate squeaking, and once tightened, either silicone caulk, or pumber goop, very effective adheasive / sealant. so if you want to take part of the stripping off, put it back on with plumbers goop, leave for a day or two, and presto no more leaks... worked great for my RE HID Lenses... they always fogged up, when washed... no more...

My leak is NOT from the spoiler. It leaked prior to even installing it. I am 99% sure it is from my window seal.

The problem is the water is catching in the interior plastic of the hatch....usualy fills the rear wiper indentation and when you open the hatch it runs up the plastic and comes out the seem and edge on the drivers side unless theres alot of water then it'll run out both sides if you open it all the way. I had rust under my seal and I'm sure the wing contributed to it. I replaced the hatch and now no leak. There not supposed to however the water will run over the glass and if open all the way goes inside instead of the gutter.

there are drain holes in the channel, remove the plastic corners with 3 screws, (where it says "open"), locate the drain holes and run a coat hanger through them to clear

If it is a plugged drain hole, that would be an easy solution that makes sense.
Can you guide us a little more with a fuller set of instructions, or a picture?

Thanks.

lift hatch, on left and right side by rear lights there is a black plastic piece with 2-3 screws embossed with the word "OPEN" i look as my fd one day that it was raining and it appears that there are drain hole under the plastic pieces, remove screws and open the drain holes with a coat hanger or a stiff piece of wire

I did this recently: removed the corners like you say and there are two white plugs where the screw goes that have a rubber washer. Mine were old and worn so I replaced them and put some black silicone sealer too. Don't know if that helps though...

How about the wiper rubber surround? I removed mine a few months back and when i reinstalled it, I get the leak i'm thinking its from the wiper not sealing correctly
