Radio issues

Hey

I've been neglecting my poor FD for the past couple of years and now that I've graduated from college, I'm starting to try to fix up some of the problems that have accumulated over time.

The first problem which I am addressing now is with my stereo. First of all, the cd player stopped working outright (it takes a cd and says error, or something before spitting it back out), but I don't care since I'll be using FM transmitters for iPod/SIRIUS. But my radio is really driving me insane. There is an intolerable level of really odd sounding crackling and drastic volume changes at fairly random times (sometimes it seems linked to hitting bumps, but that could be coincidence). Let me be clear in that it is NOT just white noise type static over the top of the audio. It seems to fluctuate according to what's being said and how it's being said. I don't know if you know what I am getting at. It's almost as if everything is said/sung through a kazoo. Just like distortion.

Anyway...is this a common problem, or at least a known issue? I'd rather not have to go through what I can only imagine is an epic ordeal of removing the necessary panels to find my short/whatever if it is actually an engine bay problem.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Fd

I have the same problem with my 93 FD. It only happens once in a while. I have a friend who also has this problem. Dave Berringer at KDR said that it is a common problem with the 93 FDs.

Same thing happens with mine. Someone posted that it's an amplifier problem. There a company in CA that repairs Bose systems. I suggest doing a search.

The crackling is either the pots or the shaft in the stereo. The CD problem is a weak laser.

Give these people a shot, although a new Alpine is around 200.00 and is a far superior system.
