Are Fluidynes really THAT much better than the competition? I'm thinking about upgrading the radiator while I'm doing the engine rebuild/other upgrades.

Also, I just swapped out radiators on my friend's CRX tonight; it wasn't that hard, but given I own an FD, is it a pain in the ***, or something that can be done fairly easily? Meaning, should I definately do it while the engine is out, or could it be done easily enough afterward so I don't totally break the piggy bank right now.

i say it is pretty easy to change the radiator out yourself, you could easily do it afterward--I'm very novice at mod'ing cars FYI. Just follow the instructions on the workshop manual and you are good to go

If you don't have a lot of stock stuff i.e. intercooler/intakes, then yes, the replacement is CAKE. I switched out my stocker for a koyo in 20 MINUTES. But it was easy for me since I don't have a/c to deal with. Either way, when I did have AC it was till cake. Get the fluidyne if you're running a/c since it's supposed to fit better. The Koyo people have had problems with fitting due to the size.

 

Yeah the Koyo takes some minor fitting in some cases, but the extra core thickness is well worth it!

 

I'll have stock intercooler, aftermarket intake. "Probably" going to relocate battery to the rear passenger bin, as well, although I haven't decided yet.

Can you give me more info on the radiator install for the CRX? Did you use the fluidyne and how long did it take?

I chose the Fluidyne for my RX-7 because of fitment and local pickup. I might have chose the PWR if I had know about it back then.

 

Well, my friend just bought the Autozone radiator; he's not sure if he's keeping the car or not, and his original was cracked, so....

As far as removal and installation goes, it was easy for two guys who really don't know a whole lot about working on cars. The hardest part was figuring out how to get the fans off so you could lift the radiator out. It took us about 4 hours, but we took some stuff off we didn't need to. Now we could probably do it in an hour to an hour and a half. Doh! Like I said, though, it was a stock replacement.
