Radiator Fans Constantly Running

My Radiator Fans wrer Constantly Running after I turned of my RX-7.

Almost after 1 hour they were still running.

I simply dis-connected the battery and they stopped.

I'm hoping that when I re-connect the battery next after a few hours the fans wont start running again.

I'd appreciate if anyone can offer some input on this matter.

I know this is realy an old thread, but I have a similar problem. Once I turn the key before I even turn over the car the fans come ON. They always stay ON no mater what is the temperature of the car. It could be ice cold and the fans always come ON. If I turn off completely the car, the fans turn OFF.

I already replaced the thermostat with a Mazda one 1 year ago and since then the car barely saw 2000 miles since thermostat replacement. And I don't see how would that fix my problem like it did to the person who created this thread. The car is ice cold and already the car in the ACC position turns ON the fan and stay ON even after I turn over the car.

I am guessing a wire broke because this problem started once I took out the engine and I put it back in. But I have looked at all the relays and all the wires that go to all the sensors and nothing seems broken... The only thing left is for me to take apart the harness... But I don't want to do that without having a clue where to start.

I am sure a wire is broken or/and grounded somewhere that gets me in this position.

Hopefully someone had this problem before and can point me in the right direction.

Thank you!
Andrew

Most likely either the fan thermoswitch is broken or you have a bad fan relay.

I replaced all the relays with new Mazda ones. But now that I think about it, I replaced the ones that are on the bumper, but I believe there are 4 other ones by the passenger side... I will order new ones as well as a new thermoswitch. The thermoswitch wire physically seems that is not broken

Just so you know I unplugged the thermoswitch to see if it makes a difference and then I grounded it to see if it does any difference and the fans still didn't stop turning. I also did the same with the green connector which basically takes water temperature and I know for a fact it reads properly because I can see the actual temperature on my screen. I'm running a Microtech.

Thank you for your response Ihor!

Fan relays are by the passenger headlight. They can all be tested per the service manual. Thermoswitch is the black connector under water temp. I have seen crappy microtech installs where the fans were just wired to switched 12v and would run as soon as the ignition was turned on. Did this just start happening?

Yes I know which relays and which one is the thermoswitch

Yes this just start happening. Before I drop the engine everything worked beautifully like stock. I put the engine back in and now the fans come ON as soon as I turn the key and they always stay ON

I have the same issue. Does removing the AC have anything to do with it as mentioned above?

I had the same issue. Hunted it down to a capacitor or whatever it's caused constantly grounding In my ecu. My friend is electrical engineer and we resoldered another one into there and all was good.

Swap ecu's to rule that out.

You could unplug the fan relays one at a time and see when the fans stop.

I unplugged each relay one at a time and still had the same problem. I even tested each relay. They are all good. I ordered a thermoswitch. Now I'll wait to get it to replace mine. I let you guys know how if that solves the problem.
Thank you for your input!

Did this fix your issue? I am experiencing the same problem after replacing my engine. Stock ECU and setup.

Sorry to hear that - On my car the Thermostat Relay was bad - I replaced that and it solved the problem.

I just wanted to post what fixed my problem in case someone runs a search with the same problem on their car. The problem was not the thermoswitch single black connector, it was the thermosensor the one with the green connector in the back of the block. That sensor reads the actual temperature of the water. One of the wires was broken and I had to trace it into my wiring. It must have happened when I dropped the engine and changed out the transmission for a built one.
