radiator cap

quick question for you guys, when my neihgbor replacedmy water pump, he also replaced my rad cap with a 16lb one. Would that cause my car to leak out the overflow after I shut the car off, I know it could also be o ring, but i didn't know if that was too high a cap? Thoughts?

the cap should be fine. the overflow may be a bad coolant seal, but if it didn't do this before it leads me to think that either the coolant overflow tank was overfilled and started leaking through the top when the cooling system pressurized (causing excess coolant into the overflow) or there's air entering the system via the waterpump, radiator cap, or fill cap.

I would personally replace the cap with an OEM unit or you can buy a brand new Greddy one off of me that i'm selling for $20 shipped https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=368720

Here's a Haiku that may help:

Two kinds of rad caps
Two places to put a cap
Must be in right spots

Car originally came with 16lb. cap, it was later revised to 13lb. (due to the 16lb. exerting too much pressure on system). As max eluded in his reply, there are two kinds of caps, one is pressurized and one is not.

Adding on to that, the one that goes over the coolant filler neck does not have a spring in it. The one that goes on the AST does.
