Racing Beat Intake?

I might buy this from a guy, but haven't seen it.........what exactly is he referring to?.....

"the racing beat duct will raplace the stock duct and is less restricitve. Its a good choice if you want to keep it close to stock".......

Does this replace that B.S. plastic design that leads to the airbox? When I replaced my air filter and took some of this apart I couldn't believe the design of the stock....... it's like the air has to come in and run through a maze before getting to the airbox and not all of the plastic pieces seemed to seal all that well to me which means some of that air leaks out and does't even reach the engine..........

Am I correct on all this? Looking for a sanity check here and thanks for your help..........

David

if the link does not work then go to www.racingbeat.com and then choose rx7 and then 3rd gen then click on intake and you will be there

www.Mazdatrix.com has it listed with pics for complete installation. Works good for me but don't silicon it together. Makes it hard to get apart for maintenance. Others will tell you it is crap but it works good for what it is. I imagine that it can pull air through the intercooler at low speed but it made a major power difference for me (with the K&N drop in).

I would also look into the poor man's intake thing...I don't know a lot about it bc I went with the apexi intake but what you basically do is drill a couple of holes in the bottom of the box and run some piping from the front of the car up to the holes and this brings fresh "cool" air in...not to complicated and really really cost affective

I think some other folks said just drill the holes but that doesn't make too much sense since it would be drawing in some pretty warm air........Thanks........ I think I'll do that too.............

I had the RB air inlet with K/N for a while, works great - probably 7-11 hp or so for cheap..yeah, it's a cheap piece of plastic but it does work..it's more of a direct shot of cold air rather than the "maze" with the stock box - you do feel a difference and can hear the turbos come on (louder)

Red face It works but...

...it's not woth the money. It should be $19.95 and on a 2am infomercial. It is paper thin, that's why it's cheap...not the design. It replaces and opens up the crossover plastic peice from the SMIC duct to the air box. Mine got brittle from the heat and cracked and broke. It should have been made from a thicker plastic, the same as the airbox and not out of dried up leaves.

I would not buy them brand new! It's $100 for the RB inlet and I think $40 - $60 for the K&N filter so $40 for both is a good deal "IF" they are good condition (filter can be washed and cleaned).
