Okay so a buddy had a ful exhaust on his FD about 2 years ago, the car has been sold since, and it had a dual tip racing beat muffler.


Well I was driving a customers car the other day and it had pretty much the same setup except it had the large single tip exhaust.
Well in my opinion the single tip was noticeably quieter. Still noisy but not as much as tyhe twins.

Can anyone agree with this.
It's his word against mine right now. It's not an argument yet, but we are trying to figure out which one sounds quieter for any future purposes.

So what do you think????

 

It all depends on what's upstream. The muffler has a lot to do with sound, but the lack of cats does even more.

I've never heard the RB dual and single running side-by-side, but I can't imagine they are much different if they are different at all. Most of the sound qualities come from what's inside, not the tip design.

I thught I implied by stating "full exhaust" that there were no cats bust just to clear up any confusion......There are no cats.

Anyhow. I just came back from a shop on Monterey park. A friend knows the owner and told me they had an RX7 with an exhaust similar to my old one.
I went with my buddy that had the dual tip and we looked at it.
Same thing, HKS downpipe and straight pipe into the single tip RB muffler.

My buddy and I both agreed, the single tip is Much more liveable. It's not as loud and doesn't pronounce the pulses as much as the dual tip with this specific setup.

With the dual tip there was much more brap, brap sound while the single tip was much less noticeable.

I guess it does depend on wether or not you have cats or not but we saw for ourselves what it sounded like wih a straight pipe setup.

It's single tip for us from now on when it's straight through.

Most people seem to favor the RB dual tip over any other single tip due to the simple fact that it tends to be quiter and less "annoying" while cruising.

 

i cant imagine any RB exhaust being "annoying" while cruising. only if you have a midpipe i could see that, but i would figure it would be less annoying than having a mp and say a apexi exhaust.

 

I have the single full racing beat 3" full catback and is louder than my cousins' he has the dual racing beat 3" full catback, and his is way less louder than my single .

 

If the RB cat-back is an older one, it may be from the time when they were subbing out the work to ASR. Those cat-backs were louder than the current design, which has been sold for 4.5 years or so.

 

I agree that it's primarily what's in the muffler--along with the size of the cannister. Larger is generally quieter. You can make any of these systems quieter and much more liveable by addind a resonator ahead of the muffler and/or using a resonated midpipe.

 

Be sure to compare equal turbo setups. For example, stock vs non-sequential are worlds apart noise wise.

 

Well as I stated earlier the setups were almost identical to that of what we've had in the past. Stock intake with racing beat intake scoop.
Both FD's had a downpipe and straight piped mid section then the only difference was the muffler.
My buddy had the dual tip and the car we looked at today was single.
The dual pronounced the pulsations much more then the Single.

We made our judement and in this setup we found the single to be quieter. Not a world of difference but definitely a smoother sound, less pulsations.

 

What about the midpipe? Is one resonated and one not resonated, by chance?

 

yep. at least 2 different vendors for the fd exhausts. for the fc theres at least 5 different tip/can/vendor combos

 

Is that right??
Are we still alking about the Racing beat exhaust???


And about the midpipe, in both cases they were some custom made muffler shop pieces. No resonators.
