Base = Nothing special, bare minimums no addons. PS, PW, Power Door locks, Rear glass defrost, 5 speed or automatic, cruise standard

Touring = Full Leather + Bose wave guide sound system + Fog Lights + Sun Roof + rear windshield wiper, 5 speed or automatic added on to the base package.

R1 = Upgraded suspension, Front strut tower bar, Duel oil coolers, R1 front lip, Rear spoiler, no cruise, suede seats, and 5 Speed ONLY, CYM paint color in '93, added on to the base package.

* Note = base models can have any of these touring or R1 specs except for CYM.

Example. My FD = Base model With. Leather seats, Bose sound system, R1 rear spoiler and Duel Oil Coolers.
My buddies FD = Base with sunroof.

The base is the one that doesn't fall into the touring or R1 main specs but has some options installed.

mmmm....not exactly. There was the Popular Equipment Package that came from the factory in '94 and '95. It had a steel sunroof, leather seats, and cargo cover.
For '95, fog lights were added. These Popular Equipment models had the standard suspension and lacked the extra sound deadening material and Bose stereo speaker system of the Touring model.

Another good tip to spot if you have a genuine R model or a Base that's had a second oil cooler or other equipment added: If you still have the passenger side door jamb sticker check it to see if you have the standard or sport suspension.
