Question Quote From Mazdatrix!

"We only use castrol GTX in rotaries." " It does not matter if the engine is old, rebuilt or new, using synthetic in a rotary will KILL YOUR MOTOR." Wondering what do you boys think about that? -nate

Using synthetic in a rotary is fine, search and you will find many threads on this topic.. it has been discussed in great detail in the recent past.

Damn...I wished I knew that 40K miles ago when I switched to Mobil1. That means with all this hard driving, I might blow my engine now that it's at 60K!!! Sheet!

Try reading the same text from the Racing Beat technical manual. They say they've never seen any damage caused by synthetic oil in their over 20 years experience.

I'm already sold on using synthetic. I read that whole article from gmonsen, which got me to use it.

Little tid bit here: In the new SCC, theres a pic of a FD thats for sale in Japan, if you look carefully the card infront of it gives it's stats. And it says it only uses synthetic.

They only have one mechanic - John. Well actually, there is another but he only does their race cars.

They have that posted on their FAQ page. I think it's a liablity issue for one and and old habits for another.

Pettit and Tri-Point which currently "still" race professionaly both use synthetic oil. I think we are all dying to find out what Mazda recomends for the RX-8.

Actually Pettit uses dino in their race vehicles. None the less, I use synthetic and have so for 45K miles and I'm still on the original engine, in the S. Florida heat, making 340 at the rear wheels with a stock sequential setup and bolt on parts. I'd take Racing Beat's experience over Mazdatrix's any day.

So what? That's no more clout than Billy Bob saying he only drinks Budweiser because it's the best.

Regardless of what the guy on the other end of the line may have SAID in haste, here is Mazdatrix's official response to this oft-asked question:

Their official answer seems pretty diplomatic. They keep saying how they only use *good* petroleum based oils, and say that *some* synthetics don't burn clean (bad). Well heck, not all non-synthetics burn clean either. So basically, what they're saying is that good petroleum oils - good. Bad synthetics, bad. Well, crap, who didn't know that? They never made a comparison between good petroleums and good synthetics and in the end say they aren't willing to, so I'd figure it's still up to you and the experiences of other members.

well, 93rxseven, who has done the tests on good versus bad petroleums and synthetics? i do agree with your point, but like damonB said, isnt it someones opinion over anothers? id rather just use what i get for free, but thats my opinion. i used to never use penzoil because *someone* told me that it fu*ked up your engine somehow. so i used castrol until my former employer, jiffy lube, decided not to carry Castrol 20/50 and the only thing left, that was not synthetic, was penzoil. so in turn, i went with the free one that the, unmentioned, certain someone, could never PROVE that penzoil messed up anybodies engine.

so who is to say which is better?

oh yeah, the only reason i diddnt use synthetic in my rotary was because the guy who built my engine told me not too for the same reasons that mazdatrix gave, and i doubt he ever read anything about it from mazda either cuz his profession is rebuilding airplane motors that happen to also be rotary, and if PILOTS shouldnt use synthetic, why should i?
