Quiet Exhaust
Quiet Exhaust
Ok, I know this topic has been beat to death. And almost everyone agrees that the RB Dual tip is the quietest. But what about the cat section. Would a high quality HF cat like a Bonez, or the metallic cat with the muffler thing be quieter? WOuld really like to hear from someone who has had both, not really looking for speculation.
SMB 3" dual tip with their met cat will be the quietest setup you can get that will flow well.
I've run the SMB setup and can highly recommend it. A mate runs the RB dual tip with a Feed silenced midpipe and the SMB setup was noticeably quieter and had less boom at cruising speeds.
It is not the cheap option though.

- straight mid pipe
- resonated mid pipe (rx7 store)
- straight mid pipe with metal substrate cat
- stock cat
- Bonez high flow cat
Listed in terms of quietest to loudes:
- The quietest was the stock cat.
- The next quietest was the resonated mid pipe but the smell is ******* nasty and makes driving the car annoying. This combo had the most pleasing "tone" or exhaust note.
- The Bonez high flow cat was just a little louder overall then the resonated mid pipe but smelled much better. The tone wasn't as good as the resonated mid pipe but I liked everything else about it.
- The mid pipe with the metal substrate cat was almost the same as running a straight mid pipe. It was only a little quieter and shifted the exhaust noise toward the rear of the car as observed when driving the car. Hard to explain...
Although I have never experienced it in person, I think the SMB combo of metal cat and muffler/resonator is a good compromise based on my experiences above. ONly problem is the cost... Not sure if it passes emissions either.

yes. RB dual tip is the Quietest. if that's what you're looking for
to make it even quieter, ... like mentioned.. drop in a SMB cat + resonator will be ur ultimate "Quiet" and full 3" piping combination for your FD. literally almost sound like stock...... almost

Though it's not made anymore, the HKS super drager, is the most quite exhaust made. It's not straight through, which ads to the quietness. I ran a DP, MP, and the cat back and it was almost silent at idle. Not nearly as loud as Racing Beat.
silent exhaust...
Hello!
I need to build/buy a new exhaust for my 7!
my current setup is a bit to loud for the tracks in my area, i need to get it as silent as possible!
my current setup is all 3", selfmade resonated midpipe with a SSautochrome catback.. WG is rerouted just before the midpipe.
the setup needs to support around 500rwhp.
anyone with any good ideas for me? have been thinking it may help with a turn-down exhaust tip too..

i have a 3" dp, straight through mid pipe and a old school hks single tip exhaust, it is the quietest exhaust setup i have ever heard on a 7 without comp. on performance. someone has one for sale on the 3rd gen part out (trunk fire car, crispy critter), I would look into it if you want a quiet set up.
