Quick question in regards to a possible project...

I've owned multiple FDs to date and quite a few other turbo cars, but I'm looking for something to tinker on without the complete headache of a beat to **** rotary.

My neighbor has a 93 R1 that's completely sacked out. I'm talking about f*cked up body work that doesn't fit right, knock off e-bay parts that are labeled as higher end parts (IE the front mount isn't even for an FD, but it's has GReddy spray-paint stenciled on it), a blown motor, and 2 turbos that are blowing tons of oil. It had coolant issues prior to the motor letting go, and god only knows what else is screwed up with it.

He had it consigned to a company here in NC to sell it who paid him 10K up front for it, but they are returning it to him and demanding reimbursement due to the number of problems with the car and the amount of money required to fix it. SO, being a stand-up guy, he's doing them a favor and taking it back.

He is still trying to sell it for $10,000 but fails to realize that this thing is essentially a rolling chassis. The DIFFERENCE though, is that a rolling chassis will at least require less work in the sense that you don't have to pull EVERYTHING out of it. It's going to be an even bigger PITA labor wise trying to get it fixed, but the upside is that he has core parts to exchange, thus saving some money.

My question is in regards to the value of this car. I'll take some pictures of it and attach them so you guys will have some idea as to the condition, and I'll link a video if I can get one of everything in its current condition.

If you were going to buy a broken roller in the condition I've described, what do you "THINK" it would be worth?

I've tried to beat it into this poor guy that the car is going to require upwards of $10,000 in parts, labor, and body work just to be a reliable straight-bodied car, and it isn't worth even half of what he's asking - but his wife won't let him put any more money into trying to fix it....thus, he's screwed.

Any input would be much appreciated, as if I don't buy it from him, I at least want him to get what he can out of it. Thanks!

Does it have an interior? Do you want it to have a nice interior? (Reason I ask is because interior parts, particularly black, are getting rare and expensive)

How is the condition of the other stuff? Is stuff rusted under the hood? Has it ever been curb checked? are the accessories working?

Well, considering clean rollers pop up here somewhat often for alot less than what he wants, and these rollers, in many cases, only need a simple rebuild and the seller just can't afford/isn't willing to put more into the car, I personally would pass on a potential financial nightmare like the one you are posting about.

If it was me, find a clean roller that even if it's in great condition with average miles, it isn't going to run you much more than 8k in alot of cases, couple grand into the motor and anything else that needs attention at the moment, and you can usually have a very clean, mechinically sound machine for 12-13k or less when all is said and done.
