Ok guys please dont make fun lol im just trying to get some info and i have searched to forums but couldnt find anything to what i need exactly. I just bought my first rotary from someone on here, its and FD. Im going to put it back to rotary(had an ls1 in it). Ok im probably going to buy a jdm front clip to swap everything back in it and want to know the best way to test the motor before i buy it. i am going to go pick up the clip in person but i dont know how to compression test it. Can you guys give me some tips on checking to see if the motor will be decent.

JDM motors are a crapshoot..... you can test the compression til the cows come home but if the cooling system is compromised and the coolant seals are bad you won't know until you install the engine and get it running.

Banzai Racing (in the link above) is located near you IIRC and they do great work. Bring it to them---- do it right the first time.

Buying a JDM motor or front clip would be a good way to get all the little parts you need to swap it back to rotary without spending a fortune and a lot of time tracking down all the little brackets, harnesses, bolts, etc.

Any JDM motor is a total crapshoot. You might get one that's mint, you might get one that has problems.

There are 2 ways to play it -

- Do a compression test of the motor with the procedure outlined above. If it's good, swap it in the car and (hopefully) enjoy.

- When you get the clip home, pull the motor, have it professionally rebuilt, then put it in. It will cost more, but you'll be guaranteed that you have a good, solid engine.

Any way you end up going, you get big pluses in my book for going back to rotary .

wow thanks for all the good info guys. the guy has the front clip listed for 2700 but i might try to talk him down a bit. even if the motor is bad i will still buy it that way i dont have to locate every individual piece i think someone said this but thats my plan. Anything else i should look for besides compression and rotting hoses?
