I was all for weight reduction and relocating the battery but since I spent more time with the RX7, I'm all for practicality now cause life's too short and I already had to jump start the car few times So I changed my philosophy and bought the biggest battery I can fit in the stock location.

Anyway maybe this will help someone buying a similar battery. The battery is a Varta 74ah 680cca. Bigger tray is another option but cutting the battery is easier I also made a custom bracket but I sent it to get polished so no pics of it yet, I wish I knew some place to have rx7 engraved on it.





I have one question though, the battery blocks something like an air vent (circled in red), I don't know what it is. Is it something to cool the battery or something for cool air into the engine bay? I almost cut it a little bit too if battery didn't fit.

 

That is a vent to cool the battery. The air flows past the AC canister and onto the battery from the intake duct. It will only work as intended if the battery box is mostly intact. Many installations don't use it, so it is not critical. However, keeping the battery as cool as possible is a good thing for its life.

 

i used a optima red top in the stock location it was 990cca i think but then relocated it to the passenger storage compartment. Some cutting was required but i love it and it alloed me to run a massive v-mount.
