Questions about the new-to-me 1995 Type R Bathurst

Hey guys, I just won a JDM auction for this FD and will be importing it into the US. The car has a build date of 8/1995 so it has to spend a bit of time in Japan before arriving here. While I wait patiently for that to happen, I thought I'd try to find out as much info as I can about the car. Since it was bought sight unseen, all I had to go off of was the translated Japanese auction inspection sheet. My first question is about the Type R Bathurst trim level. Everything I've read here has suggested it was more of a base model but I haven't been able to find out what makes it so. Is it more stripped down than the regular Type R? What options did this trim level typically include? Also, based on the chassis code and build date, could this be a version 3 car? Any other help deciphering the chassis code would be great. Also, can anyone identify the wheels and the front bumper? Hard to tell from the photos but wheels look similar to '99 spec.

Here's all the info from the auction sheet:

Wheels are 1996- Type RS 17s. Came on the series 7 and 8 RS to accommodate the big brakes (your 95 Bathurst won’t have the big brakes from factory). Front bumper looks like vertex maybe?

that makes it a Version 3/1995 model. the 1995 build went to the end of December, so they could have new Rx7's in the US in 1996

Car is nominally one of 500 and a slightly altered model run-on of the earlier version III Bathurst 94 edition, built after the 12hr victory....funnily enough the 1995 event wasn't even at Bathurst!

Not much of a model person here, but I'd probably look up Gomez on the Au FD forum to see if there's anything there, he had extensive literature of the various sub variants, which he sold a few years ago, and delved into production numbers and chassis changes in an anorak manner.

I think you may be right about the Vertex kit. Been a while since I've seen one in person.

I didn't realize the '95 models were still showing up in '96 but that makes perfect sense.

Ok, thanks for the tip. The only main difference I could tell between the Type R and this Bathurst is the seats, which look like base model cloth.

in the USA the FD would have had to meet the OBD2 standard, and they did not want to spend the money to do it (although they should have, we were just coming out of a recession into the .com boom)
but what they did do, is make another run of 1995 FD's in December of 1995, so in early 1996 there were still new FD's inbound from Japan, which is pretty cool.

the trivia question is that the last FD to be sold new was in 2005(!)

That's a great trivia question. I had no idea, what's the story there? The newest one I've seen at a dealer must have been around 1998. I'm pretty sure it was a '94 model with about 5K miles on it. I was driving a TII at the time and picking up an insanely expensive air bypass solenoid valve from the parts department (I think about $650 at the time!).
