Question Questions about Mazda in-dash boost gauge - can we get 'em?

1. Can we get the Mazda in-dash boost gauge in the U.S.? Special order? Mazda Comp?

2. When did they start putting the boost gauge in dash? Did they ever do it when the gauge faces were still black? Can you get a black gauge face if they only made them when they were white?

3. Anyone have any idea how much they are or would be?

looks like I answered one of my questions already... the '99 had black face gauges and a boost gauge. download and view the pic on this page (click download and open with photoshop): http://www.media.mazda.com/photo_lib.../rx7_16_e.html and you can see for yourself (although it's a bit fuzzy).

now, can we get them here? and how much might they be?

WHY would you guys want to?

The stock boost gauge only goes up to like 13.5psi, and it doesnt even have numbers to read vacuum.

Think about what you're asking, these gauges only go up to 13.5 PSI which means you're going to A) keep the car stock to save usability or; B) hit fuel cut because you don't know how much boost you actually have.

One other thing that is going to make this difficult is that I'm betting the stock gauge cluster doesn't support a boost gauge. I'm looking at the wiring on the back of mine now and I can find no reference to boost.

My suspicion is that Mazda replaced the entire gauge cluster, not just the one gauge. Almost all cars with 100K miles + on them have begun to have issues with the stock gauge cluster. Some were caused by cracks in solder joints and others by faulty gauges. Since cars with 100K miles in Japan are the exception to the rule, they may have begun to have problems earlier.

why do I want to know . . . we'll I'm a curious cat and I have several friends that will NEVER run over that amount of boost, so it might be a good option for them.

don't they go up to 100kPa, or 1bar? If so, that would be 14.7 lbs and is plenty for me. if they only go up to 13.5, that's cutting it a bit close, bit still should be fine. I don't plan on running anything more than that anyway.

as far as the gauge cluster - I figured that it was a mechanical gauge and didn't need to hook up to anything but power and that nipple - just like an aftermarket gauge... I tracked down the people to call... I'm going to see what I can find out tomorrow.

quite happy running less than 14 psi,
-Brian
