It also depends on what kind of paint you use. Here's my list of paint supplies I just bought all Dupont premier:
1 Gallon premium clear 264.34
1 Clear reducer 71.91
4 Premium activator 311.20
1 Gallon dark grey sealer 189.41
1 Gallon primer 217.14
1 Activator 70.46
1 Gallon super jet black 198.09
1322.55 + tax
----------------------------------------------------
1436.28
Thats JUST for materials and no labor so materials plays a big part.
If you just use a single stage paint you could do with as little as $600 with labor or using good paint with alot of body work can cost up to quite a few thousand.

A GOOD paint job will likely cost over $3000. A GOOD color change will be more like $4-5k. An EXCELLENT paint job will be more in the $4-5k range. Of course, your cost of living isn't quite so high in NC, so prices may be a little lower.
