Question regarding engine temp

I just purchased a third gen that had some of the standard upgrades already done. I'm told that if the engine overheats once, it is all over. Luckly there is only 17K on the new engine. The previous owner installed a boost guage and digital temperature gauge. Needless to say, I am a little paranoid of the engine overheating. Currently the average temperature ranges between 215-225, occasionally reaching 230 or so. At what temperature is considered overheating and time to pull over immediately?

Also, the previous owner installed the Home Depot turbo valves and did his best to quickly try to adjust it before selling it to me but wasn't satified with the results. Currently max boost is 10psi and it will dip to 5psi during transition, what is optimal if I try to adjust it myself? Also what is considered a dangerous level?

Thanks all.

your boost is good, though the transition dip should only be to 8lbs. also the temps seem high to me but my brain is farting on the actual numbers. is the fan mod done?

here's one good site to check out for general questions.

230 is pushing it...I dont know what is overheating temp but I don't let mine get over about 220. Typically it is around 200 and has only hit 230 once and that was when my radiator end tank cracked.....

your temps are pretty damn high...I'd would get that checkout asap...215-225 is damn near fatal...

I have my fans go on at 90C...gotta love the PFC and FC-datalogit

If you don't do the fan mod, turn on the parking lights so the fans will come on earlier when it's hot and you're stuck in traffic.

Your average temperature @ 215-225 is way too high for February/March driving conditions.

At 230 you have overheated!

Don't drive this car any more until you check out the temperature issue. Talk to the previous owner immediately to see if he was having problems.

Here's a link to a recent thread discussing this subject in more detail:

Cross your fingers and hope, your problem may be as simple as a faulty readout on the digital temp gauge.

Thank you for all the replies. Needless to say I am a little concerned. On a side note, the stock temp gauge never gets above half and the car drives like a champ the whole time without any smoking or signs that it is overheating. I am hoping it is the digital temp gauge, is it common for these things to be incorrect?

It is not the stock radiator tank.

The stock temp gauge doen't move above 1/2 way til it's over 235 or so. If it even moves a few ticks above 1/2 way, shut down the engine immediately.

My thermostat was replaced. I thought it was okay bc I never overheated and it seems to run relatively low compared to other FD that I have seem. My rotary specialist told me to ger it replaced so I did. I'll report if it's running cooler when I get it back this weekend.
