Question to people actually running multi-plate clutches
All,
I've been searching through posts on this subject and there is apparently a lot of conflicting information. I'd like to hear from anyone who has actually driven a 3rd gen with a multi-plate clutch (from Exedy, HKS, or OS Giken) and who can compare it to an upgraded single plate such as the popular RB 9.5lb and ACT S/S package.
Specifically, I'd like to know:
1) pedal effort (should be low)
2) launchability, or ability to easily modulate power
3) streetability--related to #2 for sure
4) how freely the engine revs
It would seem to me that a multi-plate clutch with a relatively non-grippy friction surface would have the holding power of a grippy single but without the impact on streetability. But I don't want to spend $1500 to find out I'm wrong. FYI, I am leaning towards the proven RB/ACT combo, but I'd like to hear from people who have driven the multi-plates on the street for extended periods of time. If this setup can be made to work, I would seriously consider it.
Thanks!

I have a OS Giken triple plate.. Petal is nice and stiff, IMO its streetable because im used to it.. launching is nice, it really grips well.. however feathering can be a chore if you dont have strong legs

Godzilla,
Cool, thanks for the feedback. Would you say it revs as freely as the lightweight AL/single disc combo? I'd like to have something that won't complain if I don't perfectly match revs. But I don't want to stall all day or need to rev to 3k just to take off from a stop light.
Anyone else, too? There's got to be more out there...
