Question Question on Downpipe and Converter

I am fairly new to the rotary world, i have had my car since Sept 04. I have done some research and i know that you cannot run a dp and a mp without more fuel. If i get the Bonez 3in downpipe and stainless steel performance converter with the RB dual exhaust should i get a different ecu or with the stock ecu be alright for that? I also am getting the Greddy Airinx intake if that makes a HUGE differece too.

You will be fine with all those mods as long as you keep it at or below 10 psi. I don't know how hard this is because I've never had a high flow cat. I ran a straight thru exhaust and intake with the stock ECU just fine but I also ported my wastegate to eliminate creep.

Right now I have a catback, downpipe, and intake and I get a large spike during transition which is why I got a boost controller. So I say if you're gonna do all three mods get either a manual or electronic boost controller as it's likely you'll have the same spike during transition.

I have the greddy intake and I don't think that it makes much difference at all. The same hp gains can be attained by modifying the stock intake box (via an adam c cheap bastard intake) or other means.

GET a EMS (ENGINEMANAGEMENT SYSTEM)

BELIEVE ME when I say: Its alot cheaper than a NEW MOTOR + a EMS.

WHY RISK IT??

and you will get one eventually regardless, do it now and get it over with.

If I could do it all over again.. I probably would get the EMS and a Radiator FIRST..
then MOD MOD MOD, until you are broke.

goodluck

I have a SR motorsports downpipe, gotham racing HF cat, and apexi dunk catback, HKS RS intakes, with the apexi power fc and notice no spikes. I do however notice creep now and then with spirited driving. I do believe you will be fine with opeing up your intake and exhaust as long as you have the cat and do not plan to boost over 10psi. Remember the 3 mods rule of thumb however..

start with the exhaust for now and see how it works. if you are getting it new from Rotary Performance you might want to consider having them do the coating on it to reduce underhood temps. you can do a search on that for more info.

you will very likely make another 1-2 psi of boost with the full exhaust like that. running 11-12 psi is OK, but you will have to look out for boost spikes. i hope you have a boost gauge already. read the stickies for more info on acceptable boost levels.

i would probably skip the intake till you get a base of how the car works with the exhaust. if you drop the intake right in, i can almost guarantee you will need a boost controller. fwiw, I'm just running a drop in K&N filter in the stock airbox and it is great.

do things incrementally and be careful about the mods you do to the car. turbo rotaries reward people with blown engines when they are not modded properly and it happens very quickly.

the safe way is upgrade ecu..

an even better route is ecu, boost controller (which is not really necessary IMO unless over 10psi), and porting wastegate (i believe this is more benificial w/ midpipe)..

i have a intake, dp, hf cat, and exhaust with the stock ecu. i get creep up to .8 bar after the transition on full throttle so i am trying to take it easy until i can get a manual boost controller or a pfc just to be safe.

I have this exact combination with the Pettit intake. I control boost fine using the EFI PMS.
