Question Error code 16 and what it means

OK guys, been getting an occassional check engine light in the car. I just checked the code via paper clip method and got Code 16 - "EGR Switch open or short circuit"

Seeing that my knowledge is limited, can anyone tell me how serious/not-serious this is? Car has 63,500 miles and is a 94. I have been told it needs a new LIM gasket if that may make a difference. Thanks guys!

i had the same problem. if you take off the coupler that goes from the y-pipe to the intercooler, you should see a little blue plastic piece that has two wires running into it. my wires were loose and slipping off the connection and then causing the check engine light to come on. try that first. if you have trouble finding it, let me know and i'll snap a picture tomorrow.

I have a blue plug hanging loose around that area, behind the alternator, where that goes?

The EGR code is very common. It could be a bad position sensor, or it could actually be a bad valve. A lot of people block them off and unplug them. This is a problem with Cali cars because unplugging them will set the check engine light. There are some fixes for getting around that. If you search you should find them.

I've been driving around with an EGR code for the past 1 1/2 years and it hasn't been a problem, except for the annoying light.
