Most people will say take it out and put in an aftermarket system... I have been in a car with aftermarket headunit and a good condition Bose system and it sounded pretty good(damn good for stock). I say go for what you want. If the speakers all work good go the cheap route and keep it...If they are bad then just wire up an aftermarket system. The little wave system does pack a good punch for its size. Just remember that to make the speakers work properly you need to have a special harness adaptor for the Bose(if I remember correctly).

My stock head unit was dead when I bought the car last year, so I figured I might as well rip mine out while I was having the new head unit put in. Reclaim a bit of trunk space.

I had some nice new 6" speakers fitted into where those pockets are just above the rear bins. Also had some new speakers put in the front stock location. Had some mesh put over the now unused holes in the rear shelf and a new carpet trimmed for the trunk.
