Purchasing RX-7 soon, questions

Hey guys. I'll be trading my 4Runner in soon and I'd like to get a 3rd Generation RX-7. I looked in the archieves and searched, but I received a shot load of posts I didn't feel like sifting through. This is REALLY basic:

-Are there 3 models???(base,FD,R1)
-Differences

Help is greatly appreciated.

Here's MO:

RX-7's made in 93-95.
all 3rd gen rx7s labeled fd's (fd3s)
Correct me if i am wrong:

93-94 (three trims)

base (power options- base model)

touring (sunroof, leather, bose stereo, cruise, rear wiper spoiler) - IMO best

r1 (dubbed "racing" model -not really faster, just stiffer suspension, extra oil cooler, no sunroof, no cruise, no rear wiper, no leather, funny front lip)

in 95 they added an r2 i believe, don't know what it is..

Don't buy a used 7 without having a mechanic check it out first. And have a couple grand (at least 3) saved for repairs before you buy the car. TRUST ME. Rotaries can just die at times. I had perfect compression all around, then one week after i bought my fd (with perfect compression), the side seals blew. NEW ENGINE.

be careful and prepared. Not a sensible car.

93: Base - pw, pl, cruise
Touring - leather, sunroof, bose, rear wiper,
hi-reflex paint, fog lights
R1 - dual oil coolers, stiffer shocks, bigger
anti-roll bars, no cruise, suede-like seats

94: Base - as 93
PEP/PEG options packages replaced touring model
R2 - replaces R1 model, slightly softer shocks than
R1 model

95: Base - as 93
PEP package - leather, sunroof
R2 - same as 94 R2

on base models, most of touring features available as stand-alone options

95 - fog lights and rear wiper become available only as options (might have been 94)

The R2 was an option in '94. It is the '94 and '95 version of the '93 R1. The difference being softer suspension in the R2 after many people complained about the harshness of the ride of the R1.

WOW. Thanks guys. I'm impressed at the level of maturity presented in those replys. If I'd had asked that question about a different car in a different forum, I would have received a "search, you mindless bastrd" catcall or something along those lines.

From what I've read, Touring is probably the way I'll go. If I'm upgrading the suspension later, theres no need for the R1. Thanks guys.
