Problems with the Rear End

I got a Bone Stock 93 touring Manual. Ever since I got the car, when I shift to 1st normally, I hear a pop from the rear end, I hear NO trann noise, just a pop from the rear of the car. When I shift fast from 2-3 in the normal RPM, i still hear it, but it is much less noisier. and 3-4 you can barely hear it. I can avoid from the rear making that sound when I shift from 1st to neutral, then neutral to 2nd, making a 1-2 shift take like 1.5 seconds, but when i do just what i said, it makes no noise. I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON. I would take it to a mechanic, but i am sure he will have no clue what to do. Has anyone else here had this problem

what kinda pop? like metal againts metal? an air buble pop? backfire pop? it may be hard to describe but need a better description, it may be your bushings are going bad that would cause a kinda metal to metal pop....

I would think its the bushings also, but it sounds exactly like the word Pop. I would know if it was metal on metal, but my main guess is that either the rear end is shot, or bushings back there. I would appreciate anyone who has had this same problem responding so I know what to fix, and dont get ripped off by somebody who has no clue what is wrong and replaces things

Rear ends usually never fail under stock power. Have 1. U-joints checked. 2. Ball joints if you have high miles. 3. Diff bushings and rear control arm bushings etc. Because your hearing it when you shift. it seems its a bushing or joint issue. otherwise you would hear more of a whining noise from the gears if the rear was toast. Have the dealer check it. They should be compitent enouhg for that.

Figured it out

I took the car to my father's mechanic, who is a genius. He checked every bushing on the rear, but all were tight as hell. When he played with the DRIVESHAFT, it was too loose. We put the car on the lift, and drove the rear wheels until 120mph, and the rear was sooo loud. The problem is not the bushing, but the Ring + Pinion. I am gonna go buy a set of 4.30's, or 4.33, but should I go stock?

I think the stock gears are more than sufficiant. Unless you have a great hole shot out of first gear with no traction problems. Gears change the torque multiplication to a lower rpm range. You will feel it more than most mods but its the seat of your pants feeling and doesnt really make you any faster and may hurt you in anything other than Drag racing or a tight road course. Stick with Stock. Its also better on Gas that way.

Hey I get the same thing... I ignored it for a while... THEN, when my car was on a lift I noticed that two of my bolts (four in total) were missing from my driveshaft that connected it to the differential. Got new bolts and everything was fine...

If you go with the 4.33 gears you will loose some gas milage like ZZ said. I think it would be a good mod though, especially since it is cheaper if you are buying new gears.

Gears is like one of the first mods on any domestic, but imports never seem to do it. Why is that, it is a cheap way to multiply power
