Problems with passenger side interior door opener.

Problems with passenger side interior door opener.
The passenger side door will unlock and open fine from the outside. However, I noticed the other day that I was "locked" in once I sat in the passenger side and shut the door. I had to have my friend that was with me open the door for me from the outside; the door wasn't locked, either.
Any ideas what the problem is? I would assume it's coming from the interior door release (opener)...

It's been similarly attributed in various forms to a Texas Ranger, a rural midwest Sheriff and IIRC, John Steinbeck. Who knows...but it goes back at least 30 years. Don't ask how I know that.
Good luck with the door. FWIW, your description suggests that the door rod has just become disconnected somehow. But I recently fixed a small issue with the rod going from the driver's door exterior lock mechanism to the interior lock at the inside latch. The rod had apparently gotten bent < 2 mm when I had the exterior door latch off for refinishing. Even that little change was enough to prevent the door from being unlocked from the outside. My point is (if it isn't disconnected) it doesn't take much change in length to affect things.
