Problem trying to separate 5 spd tranny from 13b eng

This is a little unusual ... or hasn't come up before in previous threads ..

I've got about a 3/4" gap between the tranny housing and engine block in an attempt to separate them, out of the car on a pallet.
I removed all bolts holding the two together including all bolts at the starter, removed the 6 clutch/pressure plate to flywheel bolts and I even released the center clutch release ring, I think, not that it should matter anyway.
The pressure plate is off the locating pins and turns freely on the center tranny knurled shaft, independent of the flywheel.
The two locater pins on diagonal corners of the engine are both free of the tranny by about 1/4".
The throw out bearing fork lever moves freely through it's entire range of motion in the inspection hole and where it rests makes little difference, it doesn't move when I try to pry engine + tranny apart, so I don't think it's hung up on anything, yet if I pound on the tranny while trying to lever it away from the motor
I just get resistance and it won't go any further than that 3/4" gap when it should be getting easier.
I'm wondering if the engine splined receiver isn't somehow galled to the transmission shaft or hung up on it somehow ?
I'm nervous about trying wd-40 on the splined shaft .. or anywhere near the flywheel or clutch plate.
I thought about heating the tranny shaft, but worried about possible rubber tranny seals if any ?
Out of desperation I tried again with the tranny in gear, and then with the pressure plate set back on it's flywheel locator pins ... no differences
I don't see the flywheel flexing when I pry on the housings, so the flywhell is not hung up on anything. If I pry any harder I worry about cracking the bell housing.
Am I missing anything obvious that might be binding or preventing separation beyond 3/4 inches ? ... Any suggestions welcomed !

Thanks.

did you stick a flat head in from the bottom inspection hole between the throw out bearing and transmission and release the spring? check page j-12 in the factory service manual http://www.rotaryheads.com/PDF/3rd_g...ansmission.pdf

Check your steps with the service manual.

Did you release the collar? Page J-12 step 4.
I was in the same situation a few weeks ago, just slid a flat head in there, released it, and the trans was free.
