Price Check

Hey guys. I know I belong in the FC forum but I have a question for all you FD guys. See, Im considering converting over to the dark side (goin FC to FD) and was wondering if the price this dealership is asking for a 93 is too high (I think it is). Its a red/tan automatic FD with 88k miles on it. Bose stereo blah blah blah, all the power assessories and yadda yadda yadda. He wants 13,800 for it. Ive got my 88 vert im gonna trade in on it though (i should get like 3k for it) so that would bring it down to 10,800ish. Think I could get him to go any lower?

Thanks guys.

Automatic FD's aren't nearly as fun as a 5-spd, plus the AT FD is doggy off the line, no matter how well you launch. I've got the same car (i.e. colors, trim, and tranny), and I'm already planning on a 5-spd swap when I get out of college. 13.8k is too high. IMO, anything between 11k and 12k is a FAIR price, assuming absolutely nothing is wrong with the car.

I agree with you there. the only reason Im opting for the AT one (there is a red/black with a J-Spec in it for 14,800) is insurance premiums. For a male driver under 25 we get robbed in auto insurance. Im hoping for a slight break in insurance if I go with the AT car and later in life do the 5-sp switch. Thanks for the feedback. Im goin to talk to him this afternoon and see if I can get him under 11k with the trade in. Im hoping to get it down under 10k after i get money for the trade in. Wish me luck.

If the car is in good condition, then I doubt you'll get the dealer any lower. They know they'll sell it to someone at that price.

If the car is still on the original engine, I doubt I would consider it unless they are going to get you a warranty.

Also, you should REALLY consider if you want an automatic or not. I had an automatic sports car a long time ago and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. However, if I had gotten that other car in a manual, I probably would have never got tired of it and bought my FD.

BTW, if you are under 25 on your own insurance policy.. It's not going to matter whether it's automatic or not..

well, im actually on my parents insurance policy at the moment, and will probably be when i get the new car because of that. the car does come with a warranty (i believe 1 year or 10k miles i think). it is its original engine, the whole car is stock. but this guy is a pretty cool guy, i mean he's selling a camaro ss with 15k in performance upgrades (dyno'd at 440 hp) for 25k to my friend. giving him 15.5k for his civic (blue book is something like 12k). So, i mean he wants to sell his cars and so im hoping that when i go talk to him he will come down. i dont care if its automatic, that can change. I just want an FD BADLY. I have the itch, and nothing will cure it. ive had it since i got my vert several years go........

Well, IMO, if you really want a manual, you should just wait and get one.

As for the warranty, you better check what it covers. Most of those 1 year 10k warranties don't cover anything like engine replacements.

Don't just buy the first FD you run across. I did, and it was an extremely "costly" mistake.

Don't buy an automatic if you want a manual. The cost and time to do the replacement is not worth it. Be patient. Find the car you want. Don't just buy the first one you see. It took me 6 months to find the right car at the right price. It was well worth the wait.

Insurance companies don't car what transmission you have. Don't be fooled.
