Pre-cat studs
All right, almost done with this dp install. However, I've l;ooked all over the web, and I cannot find any real info on how you remove the stock studs after the nuts come off. I would just twist it out with a vise grip, but someone said that's a bad idea. Anyone have a good method?

Try this: Put 2 nutts on the stud. Then loosen the first nut you put on against the 2nd until its locked against it. At that point just continue to loosen the 1st nut you put on and since its locked in place it should back out the stud.
Example:
----21----|
Lets say the long line is the stud and 1 and 2 are the nuts. Loosen nut 1 until its locked against nut 2 and continue to loosen nut 1 and since it cant go any further it should pull the stud with it. Oh and the line going up and down is the turbos.
Hope thats easy to understand lol.

I used a stud removal tool, kind of expensive ($20 from sears) but allows you to use a breaker bar or a ratchet. Made removing them a piece of cake, but it does ruin the studs for future use don't know if that matters.

I dont need the studs for the pre-cat, can I just use a vise grip? it might rip off the threads, but will it still come out of the turbo? If not, i'm sure i can try one of those ideas, thanks for the info.

I'd say you would be better off trying my idea first. Reason being 1. vise grips will put more stress on the stud and will break it if it wont come out easy and 2 it costs nothing to try it my way rather then buying a "stud removal kit." Make sure to spray the **** out of it with wd-40 or something of that sort. Just be careful and take your time.
