PPF nut size & thread pitch

I lost one of those large nuts that attach the Power Plant Frame (PPF) to the chassis and transmission and would like to get one from the local NAPA auto parts store or hardware store.

Does anyone know the size & thread pitch ? Looks like a M14, but I don't know thread pitch.

TIA,
:-) neil

You cheap bastard, just order the proper nut from the dealer.

The FSM states to replace them ever time you remove them.

They have a self locking feature & a shoulder for a larger contact area.

Otherwise just take one of the other nuts with you & figure out which bolt it screws onto at NAPA.

I agree with sled driver - them's is some big fricken nuts, and you won't find anything comparable at the parts store. Get the mazda part.

I'm not cheap, the local dealer doesn't have them in stock, and I'm autcrossing on Sunday.

BTW: I was able to find them in Grade 8 with the shoulder. They are M14x1.5 (fine pitch). NAPA didn't have them, but my local speciality hardware/fastener supply house did.

I am trying to find these with flange/shoulder on McMaster Carr, but I am not seeing it. Anyone know another hardware website or can anyone help find this on McMaster?

This is without the shoulder and without the locker:

Zinc-Plated Steel

Generally, the nuts with washer shoulder built in are not used in industry so McMaster-Carr et al don't have them. I only see them used in automotive applications.

If you're looking to get them somehwere other than Mazda (McMaster-Carr), I would get a similarly sized separate washer.

If you insist on not using factory nuts, make sure you use a good threadlocker. The stock nuts are locking type for a reason. Note how oval new nuts are.

I'm pretty sure mazda wants you to replace them because they'll lose their locking ability after they have been taken off and put back on a few times. IMHO, you can probably reuse your stock nuts indefinitely if you use some good locktite. At least until you can spin them on hand. I still remember how sore my arms were after putting on new nuts with hand tools.

Consult your shop manual for torque specs. In this case 109-130 ft/lbs for PPF nuts.

I have been meaning to post this for a while. Good information and much cheaper. I have ordered these and can verify they are a good alternative to the expensive Mazda option. They have the same oval locking feature and wide shoulder as stock for much less money.
