There is actually a section in the manual for this (which as all the steps and measments). Are you trying to realign it after dropping your tranny? The reason I ask is that if it was already aligned before your work, unless you unbolted the engine mounts, you don't need to realign anything.

didn't touch engine mounts, just did clutch, rear seal etc., can't say it was aligned properly before or not...just thought I'd check it but my manual(printed off net) is kind of vague, gives measurements but not reference points

I've never had an issue with alignment - just bolt that sucker back up and you'll be fine. I've done MANY clutch jobs on FD's without a single prob.

all of the above is correct but i thought i'd give you some additional help...

when reinstalling the PPF...

torque the rear first... it is non adjustable.

torque top bolts first to 130 ft lbs
torque side bolt next to 60 ft lbs
torque lower next to 130 ft bls.

the front has the adj slots. if you look at where the washers/nuts bit into the PPF adj slot you can position the PPF in the same place it was...

that may or may not have been correct.

to position it according to the manual place a straightedge on the milled edge of the transmission crossmember and position the PPF so there is a minimum of 2.91 inches clearance between the straightedge and the lower face of the PPF.

torque sequentially the top and then the bottom bolts to 130 ft/lbs

good luck,

howard coleman

hi, iam searching some information about my high revs vibration, after 6k rpm i feel rear vibration. maybe diff or PPF (diff bushing are super pro 8year old) i drive this thing last 25 000km and vibration is still on. nothing terrible but my *** can feel it. Sometimes i have time to read many good information here and maybe, this PPF can be my problem. Or this is what i found.
I read manual and it say, jackstand under the diff, hold to 0 angle.. but 0 angle form wheel to wheel left to right? or front to rear, my english is not perfect. I am thinking about little alligment my PPF, in my eyes maybe this could be the right place where to start.

if i am loosen the gearbox side of PPF can i move/aligment something? or need loosen all nuts on PPF and retight them.

i pray for readable post thanks for answer.

The alignment of the PPF shouldn't contribute to vibration unless the drivetrain is touching the body somewhere. I would start with looking at the motor mounts and differential mounts first.

The Diff end is not adjustable, the PPF alignment is set at the trans end. Step 7 http://www.banzai-racing.com/product...adjustment.JPG

Or install one of our Transmission Crossmembers. Transmission Crossmember

that was first what i check, motor mounts are stock and looking ok, i have some oil leak on oil pan on turbo side. Motor mount but rubber looks good, i try moovement on camera, here is a link. you can tell me if this is normal movement?
or its a lot dancing?

and diff mount, i dont know how to really check. i have this SuperPro Mazda RX7 FD - 1992-1998 - Differential to Cross Member Bushing and looking good, no movement, if i try jackstand under diff, its ok, no wigling at all

First off it sounds like your power steering is making noise, either it's low on fluid or has bad fluid in it. Almost sounds like another bearing is bad, either the idler pulley or alternator.

That said you are getting a fair amount of rocking on the engine. If you have stock motor mounts they may be worn or torn, you really can't tell with the mounts on the car, they pretty much have to come off the car to inspect them. If they are stock this may be a good time to go ahead and get some aftermarket mounts.

Someone may have used ATF in the power steering lines. Not terrible, but the RX-7 calls for plain power steering fluid. I'd suck the fluid out of the reservoir and top of with real fluid.

For the diff, it's either 2 or 3 quarts, a quick Google will fill you in.

A LITTLE low level in the differential is probably not a big deal. Too low for too long results in bearing and gear wear. That usually ends up making noise, but not vibration as you’ve described.
