Power FC vs Stock ECU on Pettit build
Power FC vs Stock ECU on Pettit build
Hey guys I have a 93 FD that had Pettit built street port 13b along with their blueprinted twin turbos, Pettit Y pipe, BOV, and air pump eliminator kit. It seems to be running well but on OEM ECU but I could get a Power FC with Pettit street port tune from a guy with similar Pettit built setup with the exception of Pettit Intercooler (I have Stock IC). Should I upgrade from the OEM ECU? I am not going to jump to Haltech or anything like that for budget and time reasons but I want to consider the matching my modifications so my FD can be running better and maybe even more power than it is now.
Do you have a totally stock ECU or a chipped ECU? With those mods it could be trouble on a stock ECU.
Also the stock ECU will make the car idle poorly with no air pump and you will have the 3k RPM hesitation.
PowerFC would be perfect for your setup.

I think it is stock ECU not chipped. I can try to check again. I did not have much history when I bought the car. I could consider getting Pettit Intercooler also to match the tune from seller.
If the exhaust system is still stock, you won't gain much by fitting any aftermarket ECU. However, as you start to allow more airflow by higher flowing intake and exhaust parts, the PFC becomes an attractive alternative, ONLY as long as you tune its AFRs properly. Keep in mind that the stock ECU will protect your engine by globally retarding the timing map if it detects knock. The PFC does NOT. So you have to make sure that the map on your PFC is tuned 100% on your own setup, not keep the default Apexi map, and definitely not borrow a map from a similar setup car. Refer to FC-Tweak for proper tuning software and tuning hardware. Today you can also implement full engine protection over the Apexi using the PFC Master, which converters the Apexi into the fastest multiprocessor ECU system available for the RX7.
