Question Power FC/AVC-R/AFC...what are these things?

Since this is a forum to learn from I thought I would ask for a clinic in the mods related to:
Power FC, Super AVC-R boost controller, Super AFC, Super ITC...etc....

Another words could some of you explain to us novices what all these electronic mods are, what they do, why you need them...etc

I've been on the forum for awhile and I'm tired of posts about some of these things and I have no clue what they mean...

thanks in advance

Okay, very simply.....

Power FC = standalone engine management system (ECU). Allows you to fine tune your motor by allowing you to adjust boost, timing, air/fuel, etc.

Super AVC-R boost controller = Controls boost, duh Allows you to change hoe much boost you run. 10 psi, 12 psi, 15 psi...etc

Super AFC = Air to Fuel ratio controller. Allows you to adjust your AF...lean or rich

Super ITC = Ignition Timing Controller. Allows you to adjust timing and ignition. Retard or advance.

Now, for my opinion....You can buy all those Apex'i products, try to find a place to put them all in your car, spend well over $2000....or just spend $1500 on the Haltech E6K (standalone computer like the PFC) or some other high end EMS because you can set ALL of the variables listed above with it. Just my .02

Hope this helps some....

Talking okay okay.... i'll explain

power fc ~ Made by apexi. stand alone ecu (computer) for the rx-7. 16 bit computer which is superior to the stock 8 bit. controls almost everything you could think of. ignition, fuel, boost... and allows you to monitor exactly what is going on. (sorry no data logging) cost: about 1300 with the fc comander. (little thing used to change settings and monitor stuff) only buy these from

1. Srx7.com Shane racing
2. xs engineering.

They are the only 2 of 3 authorized dealers by apexi. (i don't remember the third, but it's not important, last i've heard, they weren't selling them anyway) everyone else will not/ cannot offer you any techincal support. If you buy a used one, shane racing will not offer you technical support either. Main point: Only buy from them. if you don't believe me when i say they are the only authorized dealers, call apexi. or better yet, go blow your money on a comp that will probably blow your engine.

Buy the rest from whoever has the cheepest price, they are universal devices

super avc-r ~ made by Apexi. Boost controler. some use this in addition to the power fc. some say it works better, i just think it looks cool. nice bright vacuum fluorescent display. u can use it without the power fc, it's a universal boost controler.
cost: around 500-630
http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics_savcr.asp

Super afc ~ Made by apexi. "A"ir "F"uel "C"ontroler. piggyback fuel computer. using 8 rpm points, you can raise or lower the fuel injected. simple simple computer, no where near as sophisticated as the power fc. also a universal add on, and has that nice bright vacuum fluorescent display. another cool looking thing.
cost: around 320-400
http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics_safc.asp

super itc ~ made by apexi. "I"gnition "T"iming "C"ontroler. another universal piggy back computer. controls timing of the ignition. either retard or advance.. i'm not too familar with this product, not too sure how many rx-7's use these.
cost: 300
http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics_superitc.asp

other things u might see are probably other piggy back boost computers like

blitz SBC i-d - Super avc-r competitor. i say it still looks ugly though. can be combined with their power meter i-d like the super afc can be combine with the super avc-r.
http://www.blitz-na.com/products_electron_home.html

greedy PRofec B- old school, simple and easy design. everyone loves, but not that technically advance. only 3 **** to turn and play with
and PRofec A- little more advance version.

hks EVC- http://www.hksusa.com/html/boostcontrollers.htm
hks has their twin power ignition as well. (i'd recomend this)

imo id go with the power FC. It is so much better than the rest. sure it cost more, but it is the last electronic upgrade you'd need to buy. And what the hell, if you want the cool vacuum fluorescent displays, get afc and avc-r as well. and if you want to absolutly best, go snag the twin power ignition from hks and a jacob's knock sensor (not needed if you power fc is tuned corectly, but what in life is perfect? since your spending all the money, must well buy some insurance as well)

Peace out...

Super AFC

AFC stands for Air Flow Converter, not air fuel controller.
In a nutshell, the AFC works by fooling the ECU into seeing more or less air coming into the engine which makes the ECU adjust the amount of fuel going in.
