possibly worst clogged cat story ever
As some of you might know, I had a major problem with my car having a big power loss. I mean it was so bad that I wasnt able to go WOT because it would hesitate. I took it to a couple of mechanics and they couldn't find what was wrong. Some of them even said it was the turbos. Then a friend of mine suggested to look at the cat i had on (even tho the mechanics had told me it burned off because i was running rich). It also made sense that it could be the problem. I had stopped backfiring and my car was muccchhhh quieter. ANyway, I took my car to a local muffler shop and had them take a look at the cat. They told me one side of the cat had melted off and that the pieces probably clogged the other side, so they took it out and just knocked everything inside of it out and put it back. When i started it, finally my car was back to its normal tone. I thanked them and was excited to see how the car felt. I hit the street and hit WOT and finally i HAD BOOST. Never knew a clogged cat could kill ur car so bad...never leave that out when troubleshooting a problem lol.

I had the same problem with a FC, it got to the point that it wouldn't go over 2200 rpm's with the pedal pushed all the way down. Anyways, i decided to check out the cat, and that's what it was. I just took a crow bar and knocked out what was left of it out and got a free resonated mid-pipe

I won't let go
I had the same problem in a f-bird I used to own. I had removed the EGR piping on the exhaust manifold and plugged it with a large bolt (yeah, ghetto). After a while, I had a huge loss of power. I mean huge. It wouldn't move at WOT and I had this whistle from the EGR piping. It was trying to blow back into the motor. That's how clogged it was. Couldn't figure out that at the time, so I was at the shop on base and had it idling and asked a shop guy to take a look. Put his hand at the tailpipe and said I had a clogged cat. Ok. Cut it out and a **** load of carbon poured out of it. Threw on a test pipe and things were great.
